According to the 12/01 ETK (BMW parts cd) the 325 also received a suspension and steering update starting with 09/01 production. The steering rack used is the same rack that is used in the E46 325ti (Compact) in Europe. This same steering rack also appears to have been in US 330's produced from 04/01-09/01. The 330 received a different steering rack starting with 09/01 production.
A Real Steering question/concern & suspension question on 2002 325/330
I know it's an odd question, but Shaum from the other board is having concerns over the effort required on his steering on his 2002 325i . It sounds to me like the boost on his steering kicks in at different increments going right then going left. In other words, when he makes a right turn the steering gets more resisitance earlier then when he makes a left.
I had a 2002 330i loaner and the steering was linear completely throughout the turn.
In other words, the steering was PERFECT !!!
Was the new suspension and steering changed only on the 330 for 2002 ?
What's the deal on this ??

Yes, that is correct. Again, it is the same steering rack that the 2001 330 had from 04/01-09/01. Which also is the same rack that the automotive press raved about in the E46 325ti (compact). My salesman's former 330i SP built in 07/01 had this rack. I was fairly impressed. It's better than the retrofitted steering. :thumb:Alan F said:

Just picked up my 330i yesterday. steering is perfect. other people that have driven it also remark how much tighter it is than their cars (not BMWs).

My steering in my 2002 325i is perfect. I see nothing hard about turning it in any direction since it is so smooth and flowing. Maybe something is wrong with his steering because mine does nothing like that.
