Adding stock navigation system to f30

I bought my bmw f30 about a year ago and opted to get the technology package. But after driving a loaner car from bmw when I was getting it service I saw how useful the idrive system is especially when playing music. Is there anyway to manually install the new idrive system and display onto an f30 that doesn't have it.

Dealer told me today they can add factory navigation to a (CORRECTION: USED CAR) 2016 328i for $800 to $1,000, installed. Is this possible? I could not verify that in a google search. Of course the price was probably based on me buying the car at their list price but regardless of cost is it even possible? I went to the BMW website and couldn't find anything there either.

Check the vin at a vin decoder to see exactly what features it has. That sounds really, REALLY cheap (and I have not read about dealers installing OEM navigation on a car that does not have it). Have seen people retrofit this type of stuff but that price is half the price of nav when you get it new.

Maybe your proposed car already has it, and they are just trying to charge you for something that is there?

John MS, thanks for the response. I'm not sure I'd give the salesperson the title of "knowledgeable person". He knew near jack squat about the cars he was selling. The 2016 is a used car. It has 5 or 6k on it. Demo vehicle. I'm asking google because the closest answer brought me to this forum, but still not definitie.
Then you need to ask one of the techs at the dealer if what the sales person is telling you can be done.

Thats what I was thinking too, but the poster said something about having tech package but asking about the navigation... so I assumed they were wrong about the tech package (thus recommended the vin decoder).

DR Evil, if you want to post the last 7 digits of your vin we can take a look and see what your car has, and advise you better. Like technic said, whatever that dealer is offering you it is not stock navigation. No idea what they are trying to sell you for 1K but it is not installing stock original equipment manufacturer (OEM) navigation.

The salesperson is telling me they can upgrade the hard drive, install software, and change out the idrive buttons. I'm perplexed. I told him to show me this option online and I haven't heard back yet. Why wouldn't the bmw store offer this if it was possible?

VIN : WBA8E9G53GNT45513

Also I'm assuming the factory system uses its own sim card for data while the 3rd party system like the one from BimmerTech uses your phone data. I received a quote for around the amount in the previous post for the BimmerTech NBT Nav system.

Thanks very much for your help and taking the time to post here.

There is no Technology Package in your 328i.

BimmerTech Nav retrofit is OEM. The SIM card in your car is in the TCU in the trunk and its use with the Navigation system is to connect to BMW Online the same way that it connects now to your Professional Radio. There is no use of your phone data by the OEM Navigation system for anything.

Thanks again for the replies. The salesperson clarified they were offering "Business Navigation" which keeps the current, smaller screen, adds a software update, and changes out the idrive knob/button for one with a "nav" button. Apparently this is different than Navigation "Professional" that is the version of nav when you get the car with it already installed. It seems to me the lack of features of business nav isn't worth it.

I have the BimmerTech mirroring function 'box' for my 2015 F30. Basically my idrive screne mirrors my phone so i use Wazes on the phone and it mirrors ot idrive screen. very pleased.
