I'm new to the BMW game and have been searching around to see if anyone has welded in an aftermarket muffler into the stock exhaust system. Specifically, has anyone cut out the exhaust with the flap on it, then reattached the flap to the newer muffler? This seems like an interesting solution to have a stock exhaust sound when needed but also a wilder (yet still muffled) version when wanted using the JB4 control.

Has this been done?

Or, a straight pipe in place of that muffler but retaining the flap. Any idea what the pipe diameter is around the flap?

I played with this idea very seriously but ended up with a Magnaflow 3" super turbo muffler and love it. Just enough sound, like the car has a V8.

Yep, it's sounds great. Tried muffler delete first, hated it. Then a thrush 2 chamber, to much resonance and it was loud.
