Hi All, have anyone noticed a foul odor coming from the aircon vents. With the warming temps. here in NJ lately I've been switching from warm to cold setting depending on the time of the day and each time, I've noticed this unpleasant odor. It's really embarassing especially when you have somebody else inside the vehicle. Is this normal? Should I have it checked? My X3's barely 2 months old and well kept.
Thanks.

It's pretty common for all cars. It has been dicussed before on this board so if you do a search you'll find the remedy.

Another solution is to just simply turn OFF your A/C and just let the fan run for about 5 minutes before you reach your destination. That way, it should remove all the moistures in the system, which promotes the foul smelling fungus/moe. I've always let the fan run (with fresh air from the inlet) whenever I drive (even if it's set at the lowest level) and never had such a problem in all my cars.

Many thanks!

From what I'm gathering, it sounds like this is not a big issue at all. I guess I'm just expecting a bit too much from my car, it being a BMW. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your suggestions. I'd definitely put them to work.

A PIA, but as dkl suggested, the best way is to go from A/C to std venting for a few,
before shutting off, imo.

PS: and stay away from the "recirc" button.

I see you're in NJ. I'm in NYC and I have the official BMW air conditioner fumigation toolkit. If you can't get the smell to go away, email me and we can meet up some time to use it on your car. The BMW service bulletin on this says it isn't covered by warranty, but if you can get your dealer to do it for free anyway, so much the better.
