I have a 2000 328i and I have been using an aux input for a few years now. It allowed me to play my XM Skyfi until I got XM direct installed. All you do is buy the adapter(Blitzsafe), plug it into the cd changer wire and hook-up any rca input you want. So all you people looking for 03/04 radios you can save your money and leave those radios for us who want XM direct. Thanks, Matt :)

FWIW, this is NOT the same as BMW's aux in. You DO need a newer radio for that. The Blitzsafe/Soundgate option will not work for people that want to retain their OE changer, for example (Blitzsafe has a model that will let you add an Alpine instead).

And a number of people have reported intermittent problems with the Blitzsafe units as well.

No, you don't need a new radio. Mine is the same one that came in the car from 2000, which doesn't have a "mode" button. They do make units for CD Changer pass thru, which will retain the use of the factory CD changer. And I have had zero problems with the one that I use. It just seems like such a waste for people to buy new radios to get what I have which costed much less.

The one with the CD changer pass through, does not use the BMW CD changer, but the Alpine generic version of the same changer. I Bus versus M Bus.

Can you still use the factory CD changer with the Blitzsafe?

I have a 2002 M3 w/ navigation and I really want to install satellite radio, but refuse to use the FM modulator.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

David

No. Blitzsafe, Soundgate and Peripheral (probably the 3 major suppliers out there for this stuff) all explicitely list an aftermarket changer (Usually Alpine or Pioneer, though Kenwood and Sony exist) to add onto their aux or sat radio adapters.

What production date is your 2002 (look on the VIN sticker on the driver's B pillar)? I have heard that some late production 2002's had the harness for the OEM Aux Input installed. You could look behind the NAV screen and see if you have the harness there (it will feel like a fat spot in the fuzzy tape where the single cable splits to the blue and white connectors for the display).

I have the same 2000 328 and it’s wired for the cd changer. Are these aux in kits still available?
Did you have to drill a hole in the console etc, for the female aux in port? Thanks!
