After a frustrating week of consulting Soundgate, Alpine, and the stereo shop everyone has come to the conclusion that the Alpine cha 634 doesnt work with the e46 head unit.

For some reason it works with other cars, but not mine. If anyone wants to buy my changer let me know...I'll sell it for $250.00. Soundgate for $140. Alpine 130B adapter $10.

keep faith, phatbox supposedly has some news about availability that is supposed to make many ppl happy (so hopefully that means 20gigs of mp3s for us bmw owners)

Hmmmmm....

You probably have tried this, but there is a switch on the front panel of the changer: 1) for Ai-Net, 2) for Mini BUS. Did you set it to 2?

yes, I switch it to the #2 setting.

I was able to trade my "better" changer for the older Alpine cha630...hopefully that one works. Of course, I lost around $50 on the whole deal.
