Am I the only one that would like to see a limited SSG mode with a REAL manual tranny

It would be AWFULLY damned convenient. I simply find it extremely annoying that the most competent stick-driving friend of mine can manage to get into first once in three tries. Moreover, with the prospect of knee surgery in the near future, it would be awfully nice not to have to beg a favor off of the parents and trade cars.

And... Once in a blue moon, I'll admit that I just feel awfully damned tired. This happens maybe once every two months, though, so it's not like I'm gonna trade in that third pedal any time soon. :)

nope, you're not the only one

I predict we'll see SSG here in the states in the 2003 model year. They waited a year before they brought SMG II over for the M3 so I think it'll follow the same timeline.
The problem is that I don't want an SSG transmission. I JUST want to have a clutchless mode that I can once in a while throw the car into. I would NEVER give up my third pedal.h

I see what you're getting at but I doubt there's enough of you out there to justify the development costs. I mean, either the clutch is pedal operated or computer operated but toggling between both would be tricky.

I, honestly, rarely get phased by having to shift, even when I'm dog tired. It's just too effortless to me to even really notice. And those that are only occasionally annoyed at shifting themselves usually give up and just get slushies.

Bottom line- Unfortunately, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

My view is that eventually all we will have is automatics...

Yeah, I don't really expect it. My main concern is related to injuries. (I've already had one incident that forced me to trade cars for two months.) As I said, I also don't like the fact that I'm practically the only one I know who can drive my car. :dunno:

I agree. Sooner or later, we'll all have Vince's car! :D
another reason to drive a manual

As if we needed another reason...

I knew a guy who got robbed for his car keys.

The would-be-robber took his keys, got in the car, started up... and then realized it was a manual. D'oh He got out and walked away leaving the keys in the car.

That makes a manual tranny at least as good as the Club.

I was told that manuals are approximately 50% less likely to be stolen. Dunno if that's reliable, though.
