Check out the ambient door lighting upgrade ($51 w/ shipping, flex plastic inserts not 3D printed) from AmbientModz.com, which I recently ordered but haven’t received yet (I believe it’s shipped from the UK). It’s the only viable simple solution I’ve been able to find, having searched the web and a couple BMW forums.

The manufacturer provides a few installation videos with impressive before/afters. The only criticism I’ve read is that during daylight the plastic insert may be a tad more visible than one prefers, but it doesn’t appear that way in the video.

This is great find! I actully upgraded my lights to a brighter lights and 2 colors Orange605- Blue

1- Footwell, I've gone with this and they are nice orange- white, white when you open the door
2- Ambient lights, I went with this one and I chose orange605 -blue, instead of orange 605-white (orange 605 bmw color)and they are really noticeable with the 3d plastic strip

They fit in the housing of the original module board, each door takes 3 PCB boards, door handle, behind the upper trim and the bottom trim.
It will require you remove the door panel.
I went with this one since mine is LCI and I have already the 2 options for ambient light

Older BMW F01 F02 F04 has only 2 pins as its only orange and I think they sell it too!

First link is from UK & 2nd one is from Germany and I got them within 2 weeks.

Ordered the AmbientModz inserts from the UK on June 27 and rcv'd today (July 7). Installed and worth every penny. I had a concern that during daylight the plastic insert would be a tad more visible than I prefer. Problem solved to my satisfaction by placing the insert deeper into the groove. There is some "play" there which allows you to make the lighting (inserts) more or less visible. I would rather see slightly less orange during the evening than more white plastic during the day.

I believe the average person (dare I say even a BMW owner) wouldn't notice the white plastic during the day, and after a short while I won't either.
