EVERYTHING in a car (or a BMW) is there for a reason. everything. plain and simple every extra part or every extra piece of material costs money, even if it's a 10th of a cent, over a millions cars, over 10 years is MONEY

NOW can you live without "that" bit, hmmm who knows, extra pieces of metal or plastic is designed that way, it would NOT be on the car otherwise.

Sometimes it's needed for production sometimes its a fix or recall things, the designer who put it there you can be sure put it there for a reason
