all i can say is:....

i know what i'm getting myself into.

i know a couple of things from intensive test drives and prolonged interviews with trackheds who own e46m3's:

(1) the engine is a jewel
(2) the steering is a tad light
(3) the brakes are okay, but prone to fade on the track with hard use (weight factors in here)
(4) could use a tad more body control as it tends to move a bit on its suspension, more so than one would like for the track.
(5) it's heavy.

that huge sucking sound in the background is me trying to rationalize why i need a practical car.

In regards to 3, I could send you a CD containing Tiff Needle's evaluation of the E46 M3. You'll see what he does and has to say about the brakes. I know you don't need to be sold on the E46 M3 anymore, but I thought I'd share the video with you...

Minor point-

Euro E46 M3 brakes are not the same as US E46 M3 brakes.

I think Tiff is not in the US.

To be fair, Alex, the car he was driving was had Euro-spec brakes. Those are drilled rotors and also have a few other differences. Some better brake fluid would likely alleviate the problem.

The car is still better on the track and the road than its predecessor. I just finished reading this article before I clicked this thread. It comments on weight. http://64.70.201.88/Roundel/2000/1100fea.htm

The new M Lock differential is a breakthough as well...

That's true. He evaluated an Euro-spec M3. I didn't think of that. However, go ahead. Tell us all how bad the US E46 M3 brakes suck, or how bad they suck compared to the Euro-spec E46 M3 brakes. I know you'll have lots of fun in the process.

If you're talking to me, I was done. I just wanted to point that out. I'm sure the US-spec E46 M3 brakes ae more than adequate for 99.5% of buyers.
