I want to improve my braking...but without dumping major $$$ for a big brake kit, do M5 brakes directly swap on? How well do they work...and yes i know the rotors are expensive.

Get a good set of street/race pads. That will do the job. I have mintex bed box they are good, less brake dust vs stock. I know PBR, EBC they all make performance pads for the 540. This would be the cheapest way to go.

I second. performance brake pads would be quite sufficient. I have the 'red stuff' front and rear and they work great. search on the forum for previously discussed BBK discussions. they do give you better braking power but nothing that significant in terms of shorter distance 100-0. Replacing old brake fluid with new ones will also improve braking ability; old fluid is not as efficient.
