Joanne, my wife, bought me a large umbrella last year and I have it sitting in my trunk for a rainy day. In the last few weeks I have had my portfolio in the car so the umbrella wasn't sliding around, but over the weekend I took my portfolio out and now when I corner LIGHTLY I hear this loud BANG in the trunk, from the umbrella rolling around.

Obviously if BMW makes a trunk mounted cargo net that'd be a good solution...Or some sort of long umbrella holder that I can mount to the trunk liner. I'm thinking of one of those nifty elastic loops with velcro backing or button to secure to the trunk liner...Maybe get like 3 or 4 of them, line them up on the trunk lining and use that to hold the umbrella in place. Anyone know what I'm talking about and where I can get my hands on some?

By the way, the umbrella is one of those full size ones, it's like 3-4 feet long rolled up. Sure makes for a nice walking kane or a fake lightsaber. ;)

There is a cargo net for the e46
cargo net pt#

The other thing you could do is just get a strip of velcro and wrap it around the latch to lift the floor up to get to the spare tire. It would keep the umbrella snug against the very back of the trunk..

There is one model BMW manufactures which has the umbrella holders in the doors. Have your wife get you that model.

Fine... I'll resuscitate it again... I strapped a full size golf umbrella in my trunk with two very small (like giant rubber band size) bungee cords... there are some little metal edges at the top lip of the trunk, and I was able to hook the bungees at an angle so that two of them holds my umbrella... works great, it handy but out of the way... I'll post pics if anyone is interested... :dunno:
