Can anyone give an opinion on what the Night Blue Dakota Leather with contrast stitching/piping looks like? Some dealers say it is near black in color, darker than navy blue, and the blue only shows in direct sunlight. Otherwise it looks black according to them. My wife really prefers the black interiors and the Night Blue that we have seen online looks somewhat purplish?

Otherwise, does the Night Blue interior show as a beautiful interior and subtle in nature? We are car shopping at the moment and I came across a really nice BMW with the Night Blue interior. But if it really looks blue and it's a truly a love/hate preference, then we'll pass on it. Otherwise, if it really is dark looking and simply adds a subtle hue to the black interior, then we'll consider buying it. The car is out of state, so no way of seeing it in person.

I have not seen it in person but years ago I had a white 530i with a dark blue interior that we really loved. So I looked at the BMW build site and could only find it available on the 8 Series. Looking at the website pictures it looked to me that only the seating surfaces were blue and the bolsters were black, although website pictures are notoriously dark and hard to see colors well. I would certainly love to see a real dark blue leather interior available but I am not sure we will ever see it. Good luck on your search. --Bob

I saw it on a dealer lot car. To me it was blue, not black, and I liked it. Had I special ordered a new car it would have been a tough decision picking between the blue and the cognac on mediterranean blue paint. That being said I might be biased as I used to have a 1988 325i convertible with Cirrus Blue paint and navy blue leather and navy blue top and that was the most beautiful color combo on any BMW I've ever had.

I have Night Blue Dakota Leather in my 2020 540i xDrive. It definitely looks blue and I love mine. I'll try and post a picture for you tomorrow.

I took some pictures but they do not show the true color of the Night Blue. They came out looking more grey than they really are.

That's how automatic exposure works on a camera. Set manual exposure compensation to -2 for black scenes. (+2 for white, like snow). Cameras are set to think everything is mid-tone. The high dynamic range between the shadow and bright sunlit areas doesn't help. A cloudy day or evenly lit scene is best. A camera cannot set exposure for 2 highly differently lit subjects at the same time.

See if there's a difference (there is on my screen, but it might not show on others), and if there is a difference - is it closer to reality, or completely off.
Ideally - choose whether you'll shoot the pics in the shade or nder sunlight, and put a small sheet of white or light gray paper somewhere in the picture (has to be lit the same as the seats - in the shade, or under sunlight).
This will allow us to quickly set the color balance, which is the problem here (exposure and dynamic range between lit and shadowy areas are also an issue, but underexposing, while it might help, might still give the wrong color.
A white piece of paper in the same photo will be the reference which we can use to set the colors close to real.

The seats look gray because the camera overexposed. Setting back manual compensation will reduce the light through the lens appropriately. Look at the "black" carpet -- totally overexposed due to fooling the light meter with an overall dark-toned scene.

I have it in my 2019 540i. As a blue, it's quite dark. It definitely looks blue & not black. Here are a few pics illuminated with an LED light:

The blue was my first preference for the interior color. I had given up on finding a BMW with that beautiful blue leather after having seen it in one 7 series I drove, then happened to find it unexpectedly in a 2020 540i on my local dealer's lot. To make a long story short, I drove it, liked it, and bought it. I love the car and the beautiful blue interior! I don't have the contrast stitching, but love the blue leather.
