Anyone use fuel injector cleaner?

I've used Chevron Techron in the past, and have gotten good results. Any opinions?

I used fuel injector cleaner after each oil change in my last two cars. It had actually helped in two seperate occasions when I had a poor idle. If you do it at least every 3,000 miles, it is a good preventative measure.

I'm about to use it in the Bimmer (3,100 miles as of today).
I've always heard Techron is the way to go.

Most of the guys in the club here only use Chevron Supreme gas also.
use it religiously.

i always assume the worst from the gas stations around here.

i also had issues with the OEM fuel gauge sender getting fouled up because the MBTE in the gas oxidized and put deposits on the sensor.

but using the concentrated cleaner got rid of that problem.

so now i still have oodles of those bottles, so i use it a lot.

I remember hearing from way back in my rec.auto days that Chevron Techron was the only additive that actually worked and that some car company actually recommended.

What I never figured out is if Chevron with Techron is the gas you normally use, (like I do) do you still have to run the additive?
Good point Kaz

As far as I know, the guys that run Chevron Supreme exclusively do not put in any extra additives, but I'll ask around for some opinions.
A couple of things.

The normal recommendation is if you are going to run a very powerful cleaner (FI plus combustion chamber and valves) you do so just BEFORE the oil change. That way, any solvent blowby that gets into the oil is removed.

As to using one gas versus another, read this:

Good stuff here.

FWIW I use Redline SL-1 in the Roadster, jsut about every tank. Only about 1.5 ounces (using the amount ont he label for 10 gallons every fill up). For the M3 I am using a botle of BMW cleaner every 2000 miles.

There is really no ryhme or reason for what I am doing, but it makes me happy. :bigpimp:

Ackster.

3,100 miles already? That's fast! I remeber when you picked up the car!

They should give you frequent flyer miles!

How's the ABS light problem?

When did he get the car?

M3 delivered 04/22, over 4500 miles. :)

But 2500 miles came the first week (Performance Center Delivery), and 1200+ came last weekend. :)

I just ran a tank of the Redline Fuel System Cleaner before I changed my oil. I've been told by several BMW techs, as well as several other people that it is best to use a product like this before you do an oil changed and not afterwards. There are two reasons for this. 1. The amount of contaminants that end up in the oil and 2. It thins the oil.

How would a fuel additive benefit the oil pan? :dunno:

I'm stating what I was told by a BMW tech of 30 years. He told me that many people seem to believe that the contaminants (whatever they many be) are some how flushed out the exhaust pipes when in fact they end up in your oil. Also, if you use a cleaner more than a few times in your car (without an oil change), smell the oil when it's changed. It will have a high gas odor.

I have used some near an oil change when I think about it.

I have never noticed an improvement. BTW, I usually fill-up at Costco, so it is not like I use good gas.

You drive the piss out of your car, though. :D Do you ever shift before 5000RPMs?

When I am in traffic, which is all the time, I often shift as low as 2,000 RPM. If I have open road (almost never), I will often redline 1st and 2nd gear.
