Anyone used 3M Perfect It ?

1649 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Alex Baumann
I was trying to get rid of a small and light scratch on the door. After applying 3M perfect it by hand (although it's recommended to apply it with PC or rotary) I have noticed a hazing on the whole area.

So, I went with some 3M Swirl Mark Remover (by hand), it became *slightly* better, but the hazing is still there. :(

PS : I applied some Z5 today on the area, the car will stay in the garage till tomorrow.

How do I get rid of it ?

Any help is appreciated.

"Hazing" with waxes usually corrects itself with alittle water and another wipe down, not sure what 3M stuff uses in it though.. :dunno:
Deckard,

Finesse-It 2, when used by hand will always leave visible micro-swirls (which look like hazing) on your car, especially if it's black like yours. Even when applied by PC, some people report hazing with FI-2. Although 3M SMR will reduce some of the hazing (like you reported), it won't get rid of all of it because 3M's SMR by itself (when applied by hand) will induce those ugly micro-swirls too, albeit to a lesser extent.

I've used FI-2 on my black bimmer to spot-remove scratches and the only way I was able to remove the left-over hazing was with Klasse AIO applied with a Viking HD foam app. I tried using PPCL and it didn't do much....nor did 3M SMR (everything was tried by hand). The Viking app really helped because they are designed in a way that allows even pressure and the foam is a bit more robust which allows for more cutting power. Apply the AIO just like you would any polish. Use firm pressure and work the product into the paint till it starts to thin out.

Follow the Klasse AIO up with a coat (or several coats) of Zaino and you're done. I didn't have any bonding issues when applying Zaino on top of Klasse AIO, but if you don't feel comfortable doing that, you can always spray the area with IPA to remove the AIO before applying Zaino.

We don't have Klasse here

Funny, no ? A german product which is not available in Germany.

I was thinking of using IHG, which I dropped, because it's only a temporary fix to the problem itself.

As I wrote above, I applied a coat of Z5, tomorrow (after 24 hours) I'll go with Z2.

If you want to try it out, send me a PM and I'll send you some. Yes, IHG would just be a temporary fix. AIO has a very mild abrasive in it along with some pretty tough cleaning solvents. I've been very impressed with the way it handles light swirls as well as the nice surface it leaves.

Hey Intermezzo,

thanks for your kind offer to send Klasse.

BTW, one coat Z5 and one coat Z2 got rid of the hazing.

OTOH, all the things said about the SMR has turned out to be true (like diminishing abbrasives etc) You must really work on with it when applying by hand. Otherwise it hazes.

Thank again.
