I'm looking at a used 325ci, but the only drawback is it has navigation. Does anyone know if it is possible to "swap" the navigation for the cd player? Or would you just install a changer in the trunk?

You can only get the trunk changer. No way to swap out the navigation for a CD.

Thanks!

I love my xi but really should have gotten the manual transmission. This used one is manual with about 20k miles less than mine!

Are the clears different for the sedan versus the coupe?

Would the changer install be easy considering the "prewiring" in the trunk?

Yes they're completely different, so figure you need a whole new set (~260-280).

Get the changer. Once you start using the navigation system, you'll never want anything else.

Pretty much plug and play... the trim piece in the trunk is already there, and would just need to be removed so you can put the changer into the bracket and attach it to the prewire. Put the trim back, and you're done.

Do you have to buy discs for the navigation? I know nothing about it. I assume you have it, yeah?

You get the disc for your region, and 1 update free. After that you pay to get updates, or you can keep using your old ones.

Click here for pics of the nav software in action.

I agree with alee... the Nav system completely rocks. It's incredibly awesome. Even if you're just displaying your current position on a map. The "cool factor" is huge. :D When on the tightest zoom scale (400 ft.?), you can even see twists and bends on the road ahead just before you get to them!

Using the directions functions, I've already discovered a few new shortcut routes to some of my frequent destinations... I love it!

The CD Changer works fine for me, and while a trunk visit to change out CDs is a bit of a pain, it's well worth it to have the nav. I'm also actually kind of glad I have the cassette deck behind the screen, too -- not for cassettes, but to use a cassette adapter for my MP3 player. I haven't got that set up yet, but it's on my agenda. :thumb:

Hey Plaz!! How are you going to put in a mp3 player using the casette adapter?!?! I wanted to do the exact same thing but figured I can't on my car. wait..let me guess. you have a 2001 NAV. the 2002 NAV has the casette player behind the screen. I dont know how to set it up so it looks so fresh and so clean...DOH......all this worrying and I still have 7 more weeks until I get my car...

Nope... 2002 nav... I read somewhere (don't recall where now) about someone with the same system being able to use the cassette adapter just fine -- the wire (just barely) is able to make it out from behind the flip-down screen.

I'm thinking of having a cell phone holder professionally mounted, either on the side of the shifter console, or on one of the center air ducts, to hold my iPod. Haven't spec'ed it out enough yet, but I'll post the results when I get around to it.

wow. that would be great. i was hoping the wire would fit through the screen but looking at the pictures, it didn't seem possible. it won't look all that clean but what the heck. i was going to actually get a MP3 cd player but the iPod in a cell phone holder is a great idea! please post PICS when and if you do this- if you can... i feel a lot better now. i thought i would have to invest in a cd changer for all this time.
:D
