The info should be out mid-late july.

When I ordered my '02 in late July of '01, the new options info had just come out. (Although pricing info had still NOT come out at that point)

You will NOT be able to have an '03 car delivered to CA in September. Actually, mid-late October would be more realistic to get to you there.
i am planning to order around august 10
do you think i will get it by mid-october?

It depends...

if you are custom-ordering a car to your specs, then you are bound either to your dealer's allocations or to their ability to locate a car that is already being built that matches your exact specs.

If they are unable to find an allocation or a car from their July allocations (August allocations won't come out until late August), then you will order in late August and the car won't be built until October. Then you won't get your car Late November or Early December.

(It takes 4 weeks just to ship the car from Germany to California. If you are wanting the car by mid-October, that means it has to get on a boat by mid September, which means it has to be built in the first week of September.)
dont really understand this ordering thing

what??? does it take that long to order?
you mean i have to wait until late august to order?

cant i just order in the first week of august and get production date on first week of septemeber?

why do i have to wait for a month to order?

thats crazy...that means 4 months of waiting if the car is to arrive in december
:banghead:
you don't have to wait a month to order--you said that you were going to order on August 10.

If you want the car in October, you must order at the end of July.
wait i don get it..
do you mean i can only order at arounf the end of the month?
is there specific production date every month?

so i have to order in end july to get august production
and if i order august i will get sept production
how many production dates are there in a month?

is that wat you mean?

i plan to order in maybe on 5th august...and its only 5 days more from end july ...why it make so much diference?
Hopefully Jon S. will weigh in soon....

My only experience is with ordering an M3, which admittedly is different because allocations are scarce, but:

BMWNA allocates a certain number of cars to each dealership in the U.S. each month. So, BMWNA will tell your dealer, "We are allocating you 5 325Ci's, 5 330Ci's, 2 330Cic's, etc..." So, it is up to the dealer to tell BMWNA how they want their allocations configured. If they have people who want to order one of those cars, they will let the customer spec them. If not, the dealer will spec them to their liking. Allocations come out from BMWNA near the end of each month (aroiund the 20-25th). So, theoretically, by August 5 your dealer may have all of their cars spoken for already by other customers. This is probably unlikely, so you should be fine with waiting until August 5)

But, the best advice I can give is, CALL YOUR OWN DEALER and ask them these questions! They should be happy to tell you everything you need to know and tell you almost exactly when you will need to order and when you can expect to receive the car, based on their own experience.
thanks for the info
ill call my dealer for more info
:D

We should be receiving vehicle ordering guides in late July. Our July allocations will be for September production orders, which will be the MY 2003's.

Do not worry about exact dates for order input/specification. Once the order has been submitted it can be modified until it reaches production status 150.

Hope this helps,
--Jon
so you are saying that although on end of july you already submit the specifications for the vehicles to the BMW NA, you can still modify the vehicle spec accoding to my order on later date(when i order on august 6th) ?

What Jon is saying so long as a car's spec is changed before it reaches status 150. Now, when a particular car reaches status 150? It depends on how much beer the factory workers drank during the particular week the car is going to be built. :D

Just kidding. But as you see, there is a buffer zone between when a dealer gets an allocation, a dealer specs the car, and when a car goes to status 150. It is during this period that a dealer can still change the specs of an allocated car.

Dealers will receive their September build allocation in July.

Yes, but not for a 2003 model in September. Factory starts building 2003 models in September and it takes at least 1 month to reach shore of U.S. Most likely a mid to late October is your best bet.

Sure. You can even order in January of 1990 and specify that you want a 2003 3 series and some dealership might even be able to accomodate you on that. It doesn't matter how early you order, you can place an order in July and specify that you WANT a 2003 model, and the dealer will only submit the order as soon as their September 2003 allocation is confirmed (if your dealership is semi competent). Just keep in mind, when you get your car depends on the amount of allocation the dealership has, when and where it's built, and where you will be taking the delivery of your car. Best case scenario, your dealership has an open allocation in 2nd week of September, the car is built in Germany, shipped 2nd week of september and you take delivery on the East coast near New Jersey. You may get your vehicle by the 2nd week of October. If you live out west, your dealership doesn't have an allocation until late September, and it's being built in South Africa, you may not see your car until early December.

It's all luck of the draw.
Therefore, in a nutshell, if you want a 2003 car as soon as possible, call Jon Shafer and place a deposit.

Jon will contact you when the car is configurable and submit your order. This way you should be able to get one of the earliest build slots.

I did pretty much the same thing. In about June 2000, I knew I was moving to the US, I called Jon and told him I wanted X car. When I got here, I waited for the ordering info to be released to the dealers and submitted my order. I already knew what I wanted so it was easy. Then it was just a matter of tracking the car through the various production stages.

My car was built on Sep 15, shipped from Bremerhaven on Sep 25, arrived in Port Hueneme on Oct 24. Shipped to Cutter Motors on the evening of Oct 27.

August is a bit early for a 2003. How 'bout a rockin' deal on an '02?
:dunno:

Just do this - submit a No Hassle Quote Request here.

Thanks for the plug WAM!
