The Thule just straps around the roof rails - cheezy. Also scratches the roof rails over time.
The Yak tightens a clamp against the inner/bottom side of the rail.
You can sill use Thule accessories on the Yak if desired.
I went for the whispbar. Bought mine from a local dealer but here is the website http://www.whispbar.com/ There is a small but noticeable noise when they are on. They are compatible will all Thule accessories.
I feel it is the most secure, compact and robust design available.
The base rack doesn't make noticeable noise, but the ski rack sure does.
I made a custom fairing (I run a metal fab company) that is cantilevered off the ski rack so it doesn't interfere with the sunroof. That knocked down the noise. Can only hear it when the moonroof shade is open.
