It's a 1998 model with 3 inch rears. Most unplug but I have heard 4 inch speakers in this location and they sounded great and added tremendously. Not sure how much depth is here to work with? Thanks.

I really think you will be a lot happier with a good, modern set of component speakers for the front. The BMW stuff was pretty poor and has only gotten worse with age.

If you're comfortable cutting metal, you can get 6.5" speakers in the kick panels with good tweeters in the doors.

I'm not a big fan of the clunky add-on look of aftermarket rear speakers, plus they take up valuable room for the seat-backs, especially if you have installed the seat-tilt mod and removed the two rear humps.

Yea I've added new head unit and 2 amps so far. Stock speakers have to go. It is much better but still isn't up to par yet.

Sonic Electronics has what you need for JBL component speakers.

I have MB Quart QS216 speakers, but those are hard to find.
