If I had my druthers, I'd get S-03s, but I haven't got them, so don't tell me I should get summer wheels and winter tires. I already know that, but won't. :)

Get S-03s. :D

I've had really good luck with BF Goodrich Comp/TA all seasons on my other car. They're very quiet, and work very good in the wet and snow.

They aren't very aggressive though for heavy footed dry.

Bridgestone Potenza RE950
Dunlop SP Sport 5000
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

I've driven on the RE930's (the previous model of the 950) in my dad's car and they are great. Snow traction was pretty weak, but supposedly the 950's solved that.

The other 2 I have no experience with, but both get pretty good reviews from owners.

Go here: Tirerack Tires Section. No other info needed!

SP4000s, the 5000's predecessors, are fantastic for AS. Have em on both my parents cars. I had a friend of mine get RE950s and says they're among the best he's had (and this guy goes through tires like mad).

I have 205/50/17.

I'm thinking about going to 215/45/17.

I forgot to comment that I my first priority is steering RESPONSE. Everything else is secondary.
I should be done with my ContiTouring Contacts at or before 15K miles, though! Woohoo!

I just put Dunlop SP Sport A2's on the wife's Volvo V70. It is a changed car! Great all-season tire.

Pro's: Cheap, quiet, and smooth.

Con's: Narrow tread relationship to shoulder

nick's trying damn hard....

....to get rid of those conti's.

ha ha ha ha.

that's funny. i hate them, too.

in fact, my wife has always wanted BBS wheels, so i just got her some inexpensive 16 inch RKs with kumho's for non-winter driving. just from the reduction in unsprung weight, plus the stiffer sidewall and AA traction, it will be a big difference.

HP for the curves.

I don't want too much tramlining/road wander. In fact, I hate that. Additionally, since I run rather high tire pressures, going to a tire that has a -slightly- smaller diameter should help offset the size increasing effects of high pressures.

As for my tires... Well... I rarely drive more than 10-15 over the limit, however, I like to accelerate into corners. :) I also usually drive with DSC off. (I learned to drive on a '94 325i 5spd SP, and damned if I need pansy DSC! :D ) All of these combined factors result in impressive levels of tire wear. The other problem is that the Contis have so little traction that I'm constantly sliding through on/off ramps on the highways and such.

Quite simply, I drive in a rather aggressive manner if, and ONLY if there is space for it, i.e an empty road. I don't do anything in traffic.

I'm looking forward to hitting the wear bars. :D :thumb: :D :thumb: :D

I may very well end up getting a set of summer wheels, I'll see about it. I'm really annoyed, though. The WRX does better in the snow than my car, and it has summer tires. *hmph*

I'm totally convinced that an LSD is ten times more useful in any conditions than DSC.
Now... If someone will just release one for the xi...

dude......WRX.........

has limited slip diffs. on the front and rear axles, doesn't it?

even if it just have one on the rear diff., it's still mechanically superior.

fundamentally, the WRX STi and the EvoVII (both coming) are the best AWD packages out there. audis have gotten too heavy to even be in the same class.....new a4 3.0 quattro is 3770 pounds. ha ha ha ha.

I'm not exactly sure how the WRX is arranged. Whatever the setup, it's got limited slip to each wheel.
Unfortunately, the seats in the WRX pinch my ribcage.
The WRX is also geared far too high. 4th AND 5th gear are overdrive.

should keep the conti's on stock OEM rims...

....and buy some inexpensive wheels plus summers.

i've found that even if the all seasons have a traction A rating, the rubber is still too hard and the tires still squish and don't grab the tarmac the way traction A or AA summer tires do.

obviously the A/S's have to be pliable in cold weather and that's why, but it's just no comparison.

Hold up a second...do you have the 17" BBS option or aftermarket tires? If not, the stock 205/55/16 Bridgestone's on the WRX are M/S rated, and are actually leaned more towards rain and snow tration than performance driving. That would explain some of the discrepancy.
