Location is Santa Barbara, CA. Jon posted that information last year and I'm sure he'll post it again. Rates from $50 (Motel 6) and up. I ended up in Ventura (about 20 miles south?) with the LA gang (5er dudes) for about $90 per night.

You can also try Solvang. It is a cute little town in the mountains "above" Santa Barbara (1/2 hour drive). Truthfully, pretty popular with the wine tasting crowd and tourists.

Last I checked, there's like 300,000 CANADIENS living in the Southern California region...That's more Canadiens than half of Canada or something.
