Hi,
I have a 2004 X5 build date 10/03. I have the Assist and would like to have Bluetooth in my car. I have read other threads about this 84-11-6-946-993 part that works on 2005 and could be retrofitted into our cars. I would like more information from anyone if possible. How much this would cost and what kind of work this job consists of. Thanks alot. I want the cheapest way possible to add Bluetooth to my car.

If you want it now, I believe the only choice you have is to remove your Assist module and retrofit in the Bluetooth module. Retrofitting BT/Assist ULF units will only work on X5's that currently have BMW Assist and produced from 3/04 up to 10/04, which is several months after yours was produced. See information at http://x5world.com/bluetooth.htm for Assist to Bluetooth retrofit information.

If you are willing to wait a bit, there are some rumors that BMW may be working on a software solution to make your Assist module also function with Bluetooth. See this post by TripleX5 for more details - http://www.x5world.com/showpost.php?p=4623&postcount=32
