Three years ago BMW rolled out the carbon fiber chassis i3 and i8 to much fan fair. The i3 has sold well asl an all electric vehicle and the i8's wild styling and hybrid performance has received tons of positive press. The one obvious omission from the line up is a drop top version of the i8. BMW has hinted at a roadster version in the past, most recently at the CES with the i Vision Future Interaction concept (pictured).
BMW is now going forward with a production version of the i8 Roadster. It probably won't look as extreme as the i Vision concept but as it's based on the i8 styling it's going to be wild.
Production numbers will be modest, the i8 has only sold 10,000 in three years, but for those wanting an open top hybrid experience from BMW the i8 Roadster will be the only game in town.
