Hi,

I have a 1998 e39 528i. When entering a left had sweeping bend the left hand front wheel seems to not stick to the road properly and shudders as well as understeers when provoked. The steering wheel also shakes when this happens and it feels as if the entire front end is shaking through the subframe.

My mechanic put it down to a faulty wheel bearing but after having this replaced the problem is about 20% cured. it still shudders particularly when driving over rough roads or roads with potholes.

PLEASE HELP

thanks

Methinks you need a new mechanic. Is he a BMW specialist?

The tension/thrust arm bushings are the leading suspects here, a trait of the six's front end. He should also check the ball joints, especially if you've never had any front end work done on the car.

Worn-out shocks can also aggravate this.
