I am currently still having even after the things done below, 2 fault code, 290900 (air mass system: measured air too high) and 2AB500 (Boost pressure sensor, signal: Too low (implausible relative to pressure upstream of turbine and ambient pressure).

things that have been change/done/check
EGR valve changed, turbo rebuilt, clearing of soot (intake manifold), MAF sensor checked, charge air pressure sensor changed, check for leak on hoses etc done.

Any idea what is wrong?

thanks in advance

290900Air system, air to EGR mass flow, plausibility: Measured air volume compared with calculated air volume too highd72n47a0Digital Diesel ElectronicsView
Fault Information

Fault Code Description
The measured air mass is too high compared with the calculated air mass.
Fault Code Conditions
General ConditionsMonitoring runs continuously with active exhaust-gas recirculation control in the following time grid: 20 ms.
Control unit voltage: 9.5 V to 16 V.
Terminal Condition
Driving Conditions
Fault Time Condition
The fault is entered if it is present for longer than the following period (debounce time): 5000 ms
Service Plan
Check the following possible fault causes:
1. Air cleaner faulty.
Note: As of September 2011, air filter elements with increased tolerances were installed for N57D30O1 and N57D30T1, this can make the measured air mass appear too high, which leads to this fault. The faulty air filter elements have a thick grey fleece. These air filter elements must be replaced by a new filter element (thin white fleece).
2. Leaking bypass pipe of EGR cooler (pipe could be broken).
3. Exhaust gas recirculation cooler clogged.
4. Charge-air temperature sensor faulty (displays values that are too high, mostly without fault entry).
5. Exhaust gas pressure sensor before turbine faulty (in conjunction with the fault codes 27B900 and/or 4C83 and/or 28DE00 and/or 4990).
6. Charge pressure sensor faulty.
7. Leaks in the air mass system:
After the compressor (in conjunction with faults 241200 or 4674 and/or 241300 or 4679).
The fault can also occur in combination with charging pressure control deviations. Such combinations are a sign that leaks in the air mass system after the compressor are the cause.
Oil patches are signs of leaks.
Check whether sealing rings on charge air hoses are rolled back or missing!
8. Exhaust-gas recirculation valve jams in closed position (in conjunction with the faults 272E00 or 4C9E and/or 255B00 or 40D4) or does not close correctly.
Fault Impact
The fault can cause high fuel consumption and jerking.

Service Notes
- Check the sensor system for faults. Here, check in particular the charge-air temperature sensor on the display for plausible values. During a certain period, sensors were installed that displayed excessively high temperatures.
- Check the occurrence of the fault with other faults.
If leaks were found in the exhaust emission system, the following service function must be carried out: Delete adaptations, exhaust emission system.
If leaks were found in the air mass system, the following service function must be carried out: Delete adaptations, air mass system.
If the exhaust-gas recirculation valve is being renewed, the following service function must be carried out: Delete adaptations, air mass system.

2AB500Boost pressure sensor, plausibility: Value implausible for pressure upstream of turbine and ambient pressured72n47a0Digital Diesel ElectronicsView
Fault Information

Fault Code Description
Plausibility check of charging pressure with exhaust gas pressure and ambient pressure.
The fault is detected if the difference between the charging pressure and the mean value from two reference pressures (ambient pressure and exhaust gas pressure) is above the limit value: -80 mbar
The difference between the reference pressures needs to be less than the following value: 60 mbar
Fault Code Conditions
General ConditionsThe plausibility check is carried out when one of the valid operating ranges is active:
Engine in standby mode: Change in status from wake-up for at least the debounce time: 2 s
Terminal 15 ON:
  • Terminal 15 on for the following minimum duration: 6000 ms.
  • Engine speed less than the following value: 10 rpm.
During after-run of the control unit for at least the following after-running period: between 4000 ms and 6000 ms (depending on the version).
Control unit voltage: 9.5 V to 16 V.
Terminal Condition
Driving Conditions
Fault Time Condition
The fault is entered if it is present for longer than the following period (debounce time): 500 ms
Service Plan
1. Check line and plug connections
2. Check intake ports and intake valves for sooting. Excessive oil entry from the crankcase ventilation can lead to sooting, especially with short-distance driving.
If the previous checks are OK:
Replace charging pressure sensor.

Isit possible that OEM charging pressure sensor (the current one on my car do not have any branding or any markings) is the issue here that is causing 2AB500? Charging pressure sensor was changed and currently on this OEM.

In B2014 the Charging Pressure Sensor a Strain gauge are used for detecting the pressure. A steel membrane equipped with strain gauge in the sensor is deformed by the adjacent pressure. The changes in resistance in the strain gauge are electronically detected by a Wheatstone bridge and evaluated. The measured voltage is then included as an actual value in the charge-air-pressure control.

That’s a pretty sophisticated sensor circuitry to not have stringent quality controls.

Why is it that they always suspect what they have no understanding of? When you hear hoof beats, think horses not zebu.
