Hi, my wife purchased a 2010 X3 this summer, two weeks ago her drivers' seat heater malfunctioned and burned a hole in her seat and her pants.
I would invite anyone who has experienced the same to post your experience here. I would like to know if this is a common thing or not. My dealer brushed it off as "it's not something we see that often"
Thank you all.

I haven't heard of any to that extreme, but burning the seat of failures have happened.
Not something I would call common but not unheard of either.
Try a search, you'll find a number of threads.
Basically the mat under the leather shorted creating a hot spot.

This is a pic. of the seat. I guess I should clarify that my wife did not suffer any major physical injuries due to the malfunction, just a slight burn.
That is very interesting as my heated seats description does not include the bolsters.

: popcorn:

If the burn injury is documented then you have a tort, a civil cause of action against BMW. Again, it should be documented at SaferCar.gov.
