Interesting that the 3 series sales are down YTD while the older 5 series shows a 20% increase in sales.

I'm too stupid to get the direct link to work.

What's so surprising. The 3-series sedans have always outsold the coupes. Now the sedans are hideously ugly. Boom. 3-series sales go down.

And threats of 7-series-like looks showing up on the 5er is a lot more motivating for 5-series sales than any finanical incentives could be.

Interesting point. My dealer's lot is littered with 3er sedans and maybe a coupe or two. I think I saw a few 5ers and a bunch of 745's. It looks like all the good cars (IMO) are gone and the left overs are not moving. :dunno:

Didn't you argue the opposite though WRT the 7-Series last year? You have said it was pointless to look at 7er sales this year compared to last, because the E38 was going out of production and people were waiting to buy the new 7.

Sometimes I don't feel like going through THAT much explaining.

I think year to year sales numbers are irrelevent.

But I hate the 2002 E46 sedan "facelift" (er, facedrop?) and, of course, can't stand the E65. So I took this thread as a cheapshot opportunity,

Of course neither I of anyone else outside of BMWNA really knows if these numbers are good or merely spin.

My salesman told me on Saturday that the E65 is selling very poorly and they have over 20 in stock.

I was just at the dealer today. Lots of Z3s, all types of 3s (incuding the old stlye 2001s) both coupe and sedan, lots of 5s, few X5s and only a handful of 7s.

This dealer sells over 200 cars a month :dunno:

Sales of BMW's 2002 BMW 7 Series models were up more than 53 percent over last year, with 8,888 automobiles sold year-to-date, underscoring strong customer reception to the all-new sedan.

Goddamn Nate. I get sick of you only reading HALF of things and then making me explain the part you overlooked.

See atyclb's post "poking" me for not posting my rant about comparing the 7-series sales numbers quoted to last year's number. HE obviously remembers that thread. Now you go out and quote that stat again. Grrr... It's turning into f-ing Groundhog Day around here.

That stat is MEANINGLESS. Worse than meaningless since it's presented in a deceptive context.

Why do you think I BOLDFACED the 8,888 figure? I wan't emphasizing the 53% figure and should have left it out. (but, if the car is SOOO bad as you say, then it should only sell 53% of 2001's sales) 8,888 cars is a LOT of luxury cars. Comprable to the S class, maybe more. As of last month, BMW was less than 20 units short of the S in YTD sales. Not bad for a car without a full model range like the S....

Infiniti reported 33.7% increase in sales over last year, and the best May in their history. The G35 sold almost 3,300 units. ????

And, amazingly, G35 sales are up an INFINITE PERCENTAGE over last years sales. The 7-series is only up "53%".
Actually, 745i sales are ALSO up an INFINITE PERCENTAGE. Remember that the G35 is a single mid-size model not a broad product line. No doubt the G35 is eating into 3-series sales.
Actually, if you look at the 330i and xi as well as the 325i and xi, then you will see that the 325 is outselling last year and the 330 is a few hundred under last year. So, I guess I am mising this drop in sales from last year for the 3 series sedans.

Yep. It's simply the differentiation in the models this year. Last year all the xi's were an option on the sedans. This year they account for 21.6% of the 325's and 29% of the 330's.

Overall the sedans are indeed up this year by 28,250 year to date for 2002 vs. 25,604 for this time 2001, an increase of over 10%.

Damn Nate,

You keep quoting that guy, so I have no choice but read the BS he writes... :lmao:

Anyway, I really CAN'T see what's SO f(ucking MEANINGLESS about that statement: "Sales of BMW's 2002 BMW 7 Series models were up more than 53 percent over last year, with 8,888 automobiles sold year-to-date, underscoring strong customer reception to the all-new sedan." Sounds like a pretty STRONG statement to me...

And ATYCLB's "poke" illustrates, once again, that he simply likes to bash current BMW models. Otherwise, his logic (LOL!!! - more like reality denial) would be constant...

It's exactly the reason I just got a 530i. I was going to get a loaded 330ci, but have always loved the E39. When I heard news of the E60 coming in a year or so, I decided to spend the extra money and get a 5er now, in case the E60 5 series follows the new 7 in style.

The low profile, sweeping hood of the E39 is so classy and distinguished, and uniquely BMW, it'll be a shame to see it go for the more rounded look that seems to be the more recent trend in BMW design.

Who cares about the sedan sales? The Touring sales are what's important :p
