Where does the brake fluid go 2003 E46?

Translucent reservoir in the compartment at the left rear of the engine bay (car's own left). It's partially visible in the upper right corner of your second photo.

BTW, you should close the cover over the positive jump-starting terminal (upper left of your other photo).

Brake fluid goes in the master cylinder which is the white thing near the windshield

Thank you for the informative responses. Found the filler tank and it is full. The dealership was not very attentive not to see the battery terminal open. I get less and less impressed with the San Antonio dealership. They have come under new management and I am not happy with them. Will go to Austin in the future. Thanks again for the assistance. Am doing some DSC, Brake light investigations.

Given the age of the car, it is time to start looking into other alternatives besides the dealer. More often than not, they are over priced and no better than an independent BMW specialist. I would look for independent at bimrs.org and cross check Yelp reviews, keeping in mind they have to deliver bad news sometimes.
My experience with most independents is they are more interested in doing what is right for the car, have a more personal touch, and have a lower labor rate than the dealer. Many are just as if not more qualified, particularly on older models such as the E46.
