I believe the heat shield is grinding on my RF rotor. The issue being that it is visibly clear of the rotor in all ways. The way that I know it's the shield is that at a certain point when the rotor gets hard to turn/ stops, the heat shield moves a little. Where could it be making contact? :dunno:

Yeah behind the rotor. I don't have a pic and the sound went away for now, so my wheels are back on and I can't pull them right now. I actually found a goove I think that's been machined in the rotor.
the dust shield?
Is your car lowered? If so, how? Is your LCA pressing it into the rotor?

Yes the dust shield, same thing. No, car is stock height (right now :rofl

that's interesting. Next time she's up and you have a wheel off, take a picture. I imagine you'll be able to just bend it back
IMO unless you pysically bend the dust shield yourself or something managed to get dragged through there it can't bend. I would be looking at the disc itself. Years ago i hit a curb with my right wheel & even after a wheel alignment, every left turn i did i could hear the dust shield rub the disc. Replaced the discs no more rubbing. The brakes are stopping your wheel from turning when you spin it they barely come off the disc when released & if the disc is even slightly warped it can't get passed the pads without force.
I will take a pic. There's no way the rotor's warped, it's got maybe 500 mi on it and I haven't braked hard the whole time. If you're sure, I can measure the runout, etc soon. Also, wouldn't it pull if it was only warped on one side?
I hope you're right about the shield, that should be an easy fix. On the other hand, I have had failing wheel bearings sound verrry similar to such a noise. Just in case the shield doesn't show evidence and you're ruling out pads, because I agree with it doesn't really move.
if its a wheel bearing, just suck it up, drop it at a mechanic, and have him press a couple new ones in. It's not a quick or cheap repair but its crucial.
I have temporary access to a full-on shop. I'll inspect soon and if it is, I'll use their press.
