Hi all, I've been toying with the idea of buying a e36 convertible for a while now as a weekend car.

Just wondering what engine size to go for and is the auto box worthwhile.

Also does the electric hood make things alot easier or is the manual hood easy to use.

Rule of thumb, order of descending desirability:

6 cylinder of larger displacement> smaller displacement 6> 4 cylinder

and

manual transmission > automatic transmission, regardless of engine size.

Re: cabriolet top: if ease of use is a concern, the fully automatic top is easiest to use....until something goes wrong. Read over some of the things that go haywire in this thread:
