The biggest thing I do not like about my 330ci 5 speed is the feel of the gas pedal. It is sometimes sticky and sometimes it seems to have some travel in it before it engages and revs the engine and at other times it seems to engage all at once. Is this a characteristic of drive by wire or do i have some other problem?

The "lag" and "dead travel" are indicative of the DBW throttle. The stickiness is related to the "sticky pedal syndrome". Talk to alee about that one. These are two different issues, neither of them good.

The auto tranny drivers do not report the lag because the whole tranny is one big lag, hence where does one lag end and the other lag begin. But both auto and manual tranny drivers have had the sticky pedal. On my former 330i, I definitely had the lag but I did not experience the sticky pedal.

And the only known cure for the lag is to spring for the Dinan S/W, although hopefully BMW willl offer a "silent recall" fix for this as well. They are apparently working on a fix for the sticky pedal.

What are the main drawbacks, if any, of getting the Dinan s/w upgrade? If it genuinely fixes the "lag" then I don't really care much about the cost. Any thoughts on any of the other s/w upgrades out there? I haven't really paid any attention to the idea until you said it'd cure the lag.

I cannot attest to it as a fix personally. I decided to take the more drastic action of getting rid of the 330i altogether and trading it for a CPOd '98 M3 sedan. Amazingly, this move fixed the DBW throttle, numb clutch, crappy steering and floaty "sport" suspension all at once.

But I assume info on the Dinan S/W is available out on the Net, although I personally know of no one who has gotten it for their 330.

Yeah.. "Amazing" how that works... :D I think i'll start searching some archives to see if anyone else thinks the Dinan software is worth the effort..

Edit: Hmmm... seems like the conforti software might be the way to go... oh wait, it's not available for my car yet.... :(
