Note, I do not have such an issue but thought this useful and perhaps helpful. Also interesting to see Dan's logical approach which is useful in itself.

I also found his other videos to be very informative even though they do not focus on an e39.

That was a really really long video to report that the DSC module had a problem. The confusing bit was that he didn't really diagnose it that DSC was bad, he just noted that the CAN bus changed signal levels when he unplugged it -- which is entirely expected! He either got lucky, or already knew that the DSC was the usual problem.
