I think it would be a good idea to write in to the SCCA rules commision to ask that s54 M Coupes/Roadsters be reclassed as A Stock. The reality is that (given equal drivers) SS is totally ruled by Z06 Vettes, no argument. When we figure a way to fit 275/35/18 on our stock front wheels then we can talk....
I believe that if enough members write in they will have to consider it. The problem will be to convince them that the car will not dominate A stock. Any thoughts?

SCCA has its head up its tailpipe.

R Compound tires in STOCK class?

Remote resevoir shocks in STOCK class?

No chipping (how do you check that one)?

Overall the rules as they are don't make a whole lot of sense. And given that, how do you think they would listen to reason (reclassing to AS)?

actually I just read on the june issue of the SCCA "Fast Track" that they are considering just that, moving the M coupe and the S2000 around as well as the Rx7 TT and the Boxsters.


SOLO II STOCK CATEGORY
The SAC is considering multiple possible
approaches to adjusting the content
of SS, AS, and BS, in an effort to add
more competitive variety to the field.
The SEB has neither approved nor disapproved
of these approaches, but is
presenting them herein for member
review and comment. Members should
note that these possible actions are not
exclusive of one another. The potential
outcomes would include enacting either,
enacting both, or enacting neither. Also
note that there are new cars on the horizon
(e.g. Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX-8)
that will need to factor into the mix, as
will newer variants of existing models.
Concept #1 - Move slower cars from
SS and AS down one class to provide
more variety of competition in those
lower classes without providing new
domination.
SS to AS: Boxster S, RX-7TT, BMW M3
(E46), M Coupe/Roadster (300+hp), SLK
320 AMG
AS to BS: BMW M Coupe/Roadster
(240hp)
Concept #2 - Move dominant cars
upwards to provide more variety of competition
among the remaining cars.
BS to AS: Honda S2000, Porsche
Boxster

First off, how did you get your June Sportscar already?
I don't usually get mine until the actual month.

Last year when I was running the 99 M Rdstr, I was looking forward to the move down to AS.

When I got the 01 M Rdstr I wasn't really suprised that it would stay in SS.

The ZO6 is formidable competition. So far I have been lucky enough to not come up against a well driven one;)

The 01 and I are so far undefeated in the last five events I've entered. There have been multiple ZO6's in all but one of those events.

I would be glad to move to AS with the 01:))

This is the same old story with the M Roadster/Coupe and SCCA classes. There was a move for the first three years to get the 98-00 M Roadsters out of SS class. Well, it finally happened this year. But with the advent of the new S54 version the new cars have remained in SS, with the ZO6 vettes.

The other anal thing about SCCA is the mods classes. Can you imagine putting an M Roadster in ASP just because of a strut brace or a chip? Many cars out there legally fall into ASP. This is ridiculous and keeps many from participating in SCCA autocross. Fortunately, locally we have the BMW club autocross with sensible classes.

Exactly. "Normal" mods hike you into SP, but they let you run R Compound Tires in "Stock" class.

Makes no sense.

I do am just doing BMW CCA Autocrosses with their more sensible rules. In NCC R compound tires, or springs or sway bars move you into M. Strut bars, chips, CAIs stay in Stock as long as street tires.
