The following came from a previous post. The pics did not transfer to this post, but the realoem link shows the adapters. The only other alternative is to find a CD43 on ebay. That's what I did.
CD player info
I thought I mentioned this before but...here goes again.
The Radio/MID combinations in the e46/e39/e38 are ALL model specific and can't be swapped between models. This 2-component & model specific set up is what BMW went to after moving away from the old ANTI-THEFT radios previously used in the e32/e34/e31/e36/e30/e28/e24 etc.
The early e39s (up to 9/2000 build date) use the CD43 in-dash CD player which were mfg'd by Blaupunkt...and the later built e39s (10/2000-up) use the CD53 in-dash CD player mfg'd by Alpine. You will also see these numbers used on other BMW radios...for instance, the first in-dash CD unit used in the e36 is also called a CD43...and when you look at the Nav units..you will aslo see the use of similar numbers (BM53).
One has to always inquire as to WHAT model the units come from etc...so that there won't be compatibility issues. Another tid-bit about the CD43/CD53 units for the e39 is...the older CD43 units have "round pins" in the electrical harness...and the newer CD53 units have "flat pins" in the electrical harness.
This is what the connector looks like in my CD43 (for the e39)...which you will see has "round" pins in the harness versus yours with "flat" pins:
CD43 for e39 is a Blaupunkt product...
Because the Blaupunkt (CD43 for e39) units aren't made anymore...if an e39 owner (1997-9/2000) want to upgrade to the CD53...BMW has adapters so that the flat pinned CD53 units can hook up to our older round pin harness.
Good day gents, reading this post has peaked my interest in adding an auxiliary connector to my 03/02 production model 530i. I spoke with a rep at ECS Tuning and for the pre September model there is no option. Can anyone point me in the direction I am looking for. I want to keep stock stereo and have use of my steering wheel controls. Thanks
