For those in North America who are stuck with English, Spanish, and French for the iDrive language, if you'd like to have any other languages (for instance German, Polish, Russian, Arabic, etc.) the following steps need to be taken:

KOMBI -> 3008 PIA_Einheiten -> Funktionen -> Sprache -> uk / werte 1
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_MASTER -> english_uk
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_1 -> english_uk / werte 2
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_2 -> fransoesich / werte 6
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_3 -> spanisch / werte 4
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_4 to LANGUAGE_16 to all the other languages that are available in the system.

Apparently having the main language as UK English allows the car to display other languages, but if it's set to US English, then only English, French and Spanish.

Note: did not test for Asian languages!

OK! Here are the results I have tried! I was SUPER surprising after something happened!

First I have tried other languages such German. Then I went by following steps and made the German language worked!!

KOMBI -> 3008 PIA_Einheiten -> Funktionen -> Sprache -> uk / werte 01
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_MASTER -> english_uk
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_1 -> english_uk / werte 02
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_2 -> fransoesich / werte 06
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_3 -> deutsch / werte 01

Everything looked so good. So I tried to do some Asian languages, which is tough and hard to figure out.

As before, whenever we have contents with Non-English languages may show "squares" on iDrive and "?????" on cluster. For example:

Then I just follow by the instructions above and make some changes by following

KOMBI -> 3008 PIA_Einheiten -> Funktionen -> Sprache -> china_traditionell / werte 09
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_MASTER -> chinesisch_trad
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_1 -> chinesisch_trad / werte 0A
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_2 -> chinesisch_simp / werte 0B
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_3 -> english_uk / werte 02

After these steps were done, I selected the language in iDrive with the selection "blank" on the screen and this was what happened

Image

Scary right? lol

But go back to the cluster, here was what happened.

Image

Chinese display OK!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW

Image

Japanese display OK as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Image

No problem with Recent contacts! No more "??????" !!!

you can see the Chinese characters on the left down side, which is "Doors Open!" It depends on the language selection in the iDrive. So if I change it to "Chinese_Simplified", "Doors Open!" sign will be changed as well. But the bigest issue is.... there is no language pack installed in the iDrive. So it would cause the iDrive screen blank at all. I can't let this stupid thing happen. So I change the value by following and everything works good!

KOMBI -> 3008 PIA_Einheiten -> Funktionen -> Sprache -> china_traditionell / werte 09
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_MASTER -> english_us
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_1 -> english_us / werte 03
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_2 -> spanisch / werte 04
HU_CIC -> 3000 HMI -> Funktionen -> LANGUAGE_3 -> franzoesisch / werte 06

Yes! Just change KOMBI -> 3008 PIA_Einheiten -> Funktionen -> Sprache.

That's it!

HU_CIC settings remain as original. In this case, you won't lose anything in your iDrive such as Navigation and so on. Also you will get Asian languages display on the cluster as well.

What if I change CIC UI to Chinese, how can I enter text/address to NAVI?
About NAVI,you loaded US MAP,you just can use English to operate NAVI,So you need to change language to English and then you can input all of them in English....,or retrofit Chinese UI to English,no other way...,sorry!
For China map,we need to add 866(CHN-SIMP) and 8AA(China map) to VO and Taiwan need 866 and 8LT ,then code CIC.After that,if I choose Chinese, the map shows Chinese word,if I choose English, the map shows English words.US car have no map region code(like 8AA,8LT),just country code 853,So if you use US map you just can operate NAVI in English.

I have a 2012 F10 US import and the navigation system had the local trad Chinese map loaded. All was working fine until I tried to enable BMW Online (unsuccessfully)....

If Chinese is the chosen language, the system now shows the original English navigation functions on the left of the map, even though the road names could still be displayed in Chinese.

And if I try to input new destinations, the system just returns to the map without going into further menus.

Any ideas where it has gone wrong or how it could be corrected?

If we change iDrive language to UK English, does it also change voice recognition pattern to UK English?

Hi,

I have a U.S. F30 with Navi, Heads Up Display, and BMW Assist.
I'm trying to display Korean song titles in the iDrive correctly.
Is there a way I can do that without losing the navigation?

Thank you in advance..

I have a F10 build august 2011 with combox, can I get it code to display Chinese character for mp3 and phone contact? I will keep English in Navigation.

Just tried coding different language in iDrive on 2014 550i (us)

NU_NBT -> 3000 -> Language_English_US -> nicht_aktiv
NU_NBT -> 3000 -> Language_English_UK -> master

That will change the navi instructions to sexy brit accent. And words like "tire" will be spelled "tyre"
You dont have to do it if you dont want to, but you can select any language from the list bellow
And select "list" it will show up in your idrive language menu and you can easily select and have all the content dispay in that language

New challenge for you. In Denmark, which is a small country, came in 7/2014 Danish language as an option SA8A8. I know that it is coded in a 430 coupe from 4/2014 with NBT. Can the Codes in a CIC with latest firmwaer from PZDaten 54. as add language.

Shawn has been a huge help, but I can not get it to work, there are some who can help me. Have given the SA8A8 code and it stands in FA option Danish language but comes not as option in Idrive

Hello!

The easiest way is:
-delete the old language version (f.e. 851 for german version) in the VO
-edit the new SA in the VO
-vo-code NBT or CIC (in that case also Combox) and Kombi (and/or every ECU which is relevant)

Hello!

If you did it vo-code Kombi and CIC (mark the folder Kombi, not the cafd and press "code" on the right side, do the same for CIC)

New languages introduced on 7/2014 (Finnish, Danish, maybe others too) require NBT or ENTRYNAV head unit and new enough software. Psdzdata V53.0 is enough for F020 and F025, F001 and F010 maybe require v 53.2. This means that i-step (current) is F0xx-14-07-xxx. It is also possible that older softwares like 52.x are okay but I am not sure about this. After head unit (and probably kombi too) has been flashed with new enough software, new languages can be coded in by changing language option code and maybe zeitkriterium.

I have 54.2 and NBT. I tried doing the chinese via FDL but it didn't work. I believe I have added 866 then coded but it didnt work.

PS: Is there a difference in hitting code on the top lvl vs inject CAFD?

Thanks

Newbie at this. Excited and confused about this whole process, especially the possibility of language options.
Questions:
On a USA 2015 335xi can I change the language shown on iDrive to something other than NAFTAspeak, like German?
Will the car's NAV system still function, i.e. are the maps recognized? Will the voice instructions be in German, English, or not available at all?
Will voice commands also be in German? Do I get to respond to the car in German (!) ?
Are other functions that might go along with German, like defaulting to metric and celsius measurements also going to happen? (I think I can change some of that thru normal settings)

One other question...if all this is available, why wouldn't a dealer offer to "customize" the car to the new owner's preferences as part of prep? What am I missing here? At delivery of my first bimmer, a 1997 528i, there was a whole sheet of "preferences" I had to fill out, similar to some of the codings here. Is this just not done anymore?

Coding is not officially supported, although some dealers will do simple things like disable the auto start/stop feature, etc.

My personal theory is that BMW allows this stuff to leak out because it gives customers great flexibility while absolving them of any legal liability. They don't want to annoy people with legal disclaimers, etc., but they're required to put them in.

Similarly, if they have a feature that isn't quite ready for prime time customers can still try it out if they wish. For example, most of the things I coded on my '13 F06 are now standard on my '15 F06.

Coding gives people a back door so that everyone's happy. BMW meets their legal obligations while customers are able to rid their cars of annoying nanny messages and try "hidden" features at their own risk.

Of course, I could be wrong. The way they trimmed the CAFD files implies that they're trying to end coding. I hope they never succeed.

For any of you who are using non-default language settings and encountering the problem with entering nav destinations, there was an answer on another thread. Code:

HU_NBT:3000:NAVI_DESTINATION_INPUT_US to nicht_aktiv

Full credit for this goes to user 'mostness', see the original thread:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8838226

I was a bit skeptical, but I coded it and it worked great. The satellite radio still shows as "n.t.a. SDARS" but that's a minor annoyance compared to the navigation problem.

Note that I coded LANGUAGE_ENGLISH_UK to 'master' and LANGUAGE_ENGLISH_US to 'nicht_aktiv' rather than the specific codes discussed in this thread, but the results seem to be virtually identical, so hopefully the above fix will work for either scenario.
