Hi -

I've just purchased an '08 X5 and desperately wanted chrome window frames, however, I was told by the dealer that the only the 4.8 comes with chrome (or the option to go without it as well!). Strange. Anyway, my dealer has a new guy they are working with who can apparently replace my frame fittings with chrome, but only on the center pillar which may look strange and incomplete -- I am going to check out the one he did at the dealership to judge for myself. That said, does anyone know of an aftermarket specialist in the tri-state area who can give me what I truly desire which is chrome wrapped all the way around the frame? Many thanks.

Chrome Frame are standard whitout the sport package on both 3.0 and 4.8 models. Sport Package models all have black window frames, which I personally like best unless you like :bling:

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I don't think that is accurate. I also thought it was just the Sport Pkg. that negated the chrome option as you pointed out and when I "built my own" online this certainly seemed the case...apparently not. It's important to note that I didn't buy my car off the lot, they built it for me and I trust the dealer and staff who double-checked with BMW. I'm told that it has nothing to do with the Sport Pkg.or any other pkg. -- it is solely based on the 3.0 model (at least for '08's -- no idea about previous years). Apparently, the X5 3.0 isn't the only model where this is an issue, too. I think it's ridiculous that I don't have the chrome option on a luxury car, but it would seem I'm not alone. I understand and appreciate that chrome is not as "sporty" and that the car is positioned as a "Sport Activity Vehicle," but still they should allow for different strokes for different folks. Jeez, the 4.8 is obviously sportier since it's more powerful and the chrome is standard on that car. Go figure.
