Clutch Problems

repost from bimmer.org

After my little accident several months ago, I have been having problems with my clutch. There hasn't been any sign of slippage but it just doesn't seem to work smoothly anymore. I figure I would just replace the damn thing since the dealer was gonna charge me $700 just for looking at it (FM West in MA). Does anyone have an idea how much the labor charge is? I only ask this cause I can get a stock clutch for much less than what the dealers are gonna charge me. I am hoping only 300-400 for labor.

thanks in advance.

My only question is "why would you go to the dealer for this work??" There must be plenty of good, independent garages in your area, that will probably do a better job (more pride) for a less labor charge than your dealer's service department. Ther must be places around boston that specialize in BMW's, and they may even have more experince at these kind of repairs

According to VOB BMW, the fee for replacing a clutch, including parts is 1100 for a RWD car.

Clutch parts were around 500, so 600.
AWD Bimmers get shafted at $1400.

Well, I got quoted at a BMW dealership for $700. I guess its a good deal then.

hey.....

....if you're going to have your clutch redone, spend an extra $150 and get the heavy duty Sachs (OEM supplier) clutch kit. that way you'll never have to worry about it again. sure, there will be dust buildup from slippage, but it probably won't fail again or have problems burning out again.

just while you're spending your money, do it wisely. just my opinion.
