It goes into the clay. Then you flatten the clay, fold it over, and continue.johnlew said:Where does all the junk your pulling off the surface go? Do you keep working it into the clay by hand?
That's what I thought. How do you determine when it's "full?"alee said:

I usually pitch the clay when one of 3 things happen:johnlew said:That's what I thought. How do you determine when it's "full?"
Thanks.alee said:
I usually pitch the clay when one of 3 things happen:
a. I drop it. At that point it's ruined.
b. When I fold it over and I see little black specs in the clay.
c. The clay has dried (even just a little).

Do you clay the heavier stuff under the rockers and bumpers?Ripsnort said:When I clay, after washing the car once with Dawn, rinse, and again with car shampoo, rinse, I leave the rinse water from the second washing on, then I also spritz the area with "Speed Shine", which acts as a lubricant (Griots recommends this when using the claybar, however just about any Detail spray will work.) Works great. When finish, just rinse it again, no need to wash it again, the clay residue comes off easily.
I'll give it a good cleaning with bug and tar remover, then a washing like you recommend, before claying. I'm having my wife order the Griots orbital kit for my Bday, clay, machine polish 1?(the least cutting), best of show wax, orange polish bonnet, red wax bonnet, speed shine. $80 bucks for all of it. I'll get the PC from Coast with the velcro pad and extra weight.Ripsnort said:Well, this is the first car I've ever clayed..so my knowledge is limited, John. The first time (and only time) I did it I just clayed the large flat surfaces of the bumpers. Yes, did the rockers too, but make sure you do all the rockers and bumpers last as they will pick up more contaminants then the rest..less folding of clay if you do it in that order.
I do the entire car myself...I wash and use bug & Tar remover on the rockers before clay.johnlew said:Do you clay the heavier stuff under the rockers and bumpers?
My mistake, it is #3 in the Orbital Polishing KitRipsnort said:John, Machine polish #1 is the most abrasive, I would recommend #3, the least abrasive. #1 would be for a finish that is really oxidized.
Does Meguiar's Quick Detail spray fall into the same categorey? (I love the small of that stuff. It's like peachesRipsnort said:When I clay, after washing the car once with Dawn, rinse, and again with car shampoo, rinse, I leave the rinse water from the second washing on, then I also spritz the area with "Speed Shine", which acts as a lubricant (Griots recommends this when using the claybar, however just about any Detail spray will work.) That's what I use -- actually the equivalant: Final Inspection.Clem said:
