Do you have an oil leak? The car will not be able to find this problem as it isnt looking for it. The car only checks to see that the O2 level is correct. The cat does not convert the CO2 either. It is there to deal with other byproducts of combustion. Check here for more info.

There is also a chance that the car has a sticky injector or the wrong fuel pressure and that it is out of the range of adjustment that the computer can provide for. But that should cause the check engine light to come on.
