Hello, just got a 2012 328i, and coded EBT and Sport + into my car using the guides from this forum and what the cable maker sent me - which looked nearly exactly the same as the ones here. I got the options coded in, but have a few lingering oopsies...

I made the total noob mistake of coding the car while the engine was running, and now I have a few lights on - fuel system, stability system, and airbag are the ones that pop up on start up. I drove the car around the block, seems to drive fine. I tried recoding using exactly the same steps, but with engine off and still get the lights. Tried clearing the lights in Esys, no luck.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You are supposed to code with engine running to maintain communication & power to ECU's.

If driving and clearing with E-sys does not work, sometimes you just need to let car rest.

Thanks for the quick response! So, I didn't necessarily jack my car? I let the car rest overnight, which cleared all but two malfunction alerts - drivetrain malfunction on startup and fuel system malfunction on shutdown. Should I expect these to go away on their own with more driving, maybe after so many sensor reports show the ECU no actual problem? Or do I need to adjust some code to make them go away, since I last coded the vehicle with engine not running? I only changed two codes in the VO, EBT and Sport +. Should I change Sport + back to original?

Biggest question now is - am I ok to drive the car? I work 30 miles from home, but can take the train if that is too far of a drive for the car in this condition.

Thanks for your help!

As long as when you read SVT, each ECU has (uncorrupted) CAFD, and coding finished with no errors, then usually those are false positives.

I have never seen errors last that long. EBT would not cause an issue. Sport+ might; you may want to change that back.

You may also want to get a copy of ISTA+.

I cannot say for sure the car is fine.

After reading the forums a little more, and looking over the guide again, I realized that I coded all ECUs, both times, not just ones applicable to the changes I was trying to make. The first coding was with engine running, second was with engine off, ignition on.

There were two errors after coding:
After first attempt, with engine running:
DME [12]
cdDeploy FinishedWithError
cafd_00000c77-000_005_000 FinishedWithError

After second attempt with engine off, ignition on:
EPS [30]
cdDeploy FinishedWithError
cafd_00000c77_000_005_000 Not Executable

So, where do I go from here? From what I gather, I need to recode DME on its own, engine not running, then turn ignition off, turn ignition back on, and recode EPS on its own, engine running? I was only changing VO codes, and will change Sport + 2TB code back to 205. I don't need it, was just curious about that one. Should I recode that first, then recode DME, then EPS?

Last question - I drove the car to work this morning, after a quick spin around the block went well. All indications are normal right now - no unusual noises/behaviors other than the malfunction lights. Am I going to screw something up if I drive it before recoding?

Thanks for your help, you guys are truly lifesavers, especially for knuckleheads like me who jump into things a little too quickly!

You definitely NEVER code DME with engine running. And, you should really not be coding DME ever (especially past 10 hours as settings are locked). Does DME still have blue CAFD with green checkmark when you read SVT?

Like I said, I cannot know for sure whether there will be issues as I know not if they are false positives or something more serious.

Got it all sorted out! I found a thread that detailed the exact issue I had, and Shawn Sheridan posted a perfect step by step fix - will link to the post when I get home and on my laptop so others can see. HUGE thanks to everyone here for the help!

Really, the only way to know is to read ECU List with E-Sys.

You have 606 Business Nav though. What is your map type? ROUTE Map or older MOVE or MOTION Maps?

thanks for the response. to be honest im new to this iv been reading your posts for a week or so trying to grasp your instructions for e sys. do i just download e sys from somewhere and plug it in or do i need data files and tokens? if you could send me the esys and the data i will need to do this it would be great, i have no idea what maps it is the car is 2014 built in january 14

PM sent.

From Navigation Screen, hit the iDrive Controller Option Button and then Scroll Down on Screen and display Navigation version. What is name / version of your Map?

Hey guys,

Any idea if this upgrade solves the notorious 'no album art while playing Pandora on an Android over bluetooth' issue?

Hi Shawn my maps are (road map Europe move 2014-1) I have just found the silver box (I think combox) in the boot next to fuse box that people have mentioned.
