Hi guys,

First off I need to apologise as I have no idea what model my car is apart from 320d M sport, this is a UK 63 plate build date of Sept 2013.
I have professional nav, but not enhanced Bluetooth
I have office functions/assist and apps etc within idrive but when pairing Bluetooth all I get is Telephone and not audio/office functions.
I checked the build vin site and it said I had 6NH which I believe is just usb audio and phone prep.

How easy is this to code and get the software as I seem to have read that half the links etc are virus ridden :-( etc..

many thanks for your help guys..

Hi guys,

I have a 2016 535 (F10); I've been able to successfully do coding on it with e-sys and various features like doors, removal of disclaimers and what not.

I'm interested in finding out how I can get enhanced Bluetooth on this car. My old 335 had enhanced Bluetooth with office and ability to read text messages from my iPhone but not this 535. It can stream bluetooth music and work as a phone but that's it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What Head Unit? Does 2016 535 (F10) have Navigation option?

Today, my ENET-cable finally arrived :)
So when I got home, I installed E-SYS and followed the steps in the PDF from Shawn.

After some sweaty moments it all was done and now I can stream audio from Spotify:

Thank you so much Shawn, you're my hero!

I changed 6NH to 6NK. Are there any more options that I could unlock? Album Art is not possible on HU_CIC, right?

Album Art for CIC is only possible via USB (.mp3).

I just bought my first BMW, a 2014 316i. It has Bluetooth calling but not Bluetooth music, it looks like this is the place to be in order to fix that :)

I have read through plenty of this thread to see that Shawn is extremely helpful and I'm hoping you're willing to PM me with more details. I can provide a VIN of course.

Hellooo Shawn. Amazing job you are doing on this site! We are a household with 3 BMW's! One does not have an issue with Bluetooth music connectivity, the other 2 only have phone connectivity. I am not being able to know if they have Combox based on the VIN numbers. Appreciate if you could help!! I will PM you all three VIN's and really hope I can upgrade the two cars which have an issue. Thanks

Hello, I have received my ENET cable and attempted to connect to my BMW for the first time. I've followed the instructions to the letter. Turned off Wifi and disabled all antivirus etc on my laptop. Ethernet socket set to DHCP. Car running. Connected ENET cable. Waited... Waited.... and nothing! My laptop simply won't recognise that anything is connected to the Ethernet socket. I'm aware that it can take a minute to go into DHCP fallback mode but I've left it connected for over 5 minutes and it's not recognising the connection. I tried numerous times to no avaiI. I loaded E-Sys anyway and as suspected the 'Connection via VIN' option is greyed out.

Any suggestions? Maybe a faulty cable?

Need advice

Has anyone got any ideas? Shawn? I've tried just about everything I can think of. There is definitely no problem with the Ethernet input on my laptop, also no problem with the OBDII connection on the BMW as I had someone plug an OBD WiFi dongle into it and connect it to their generic fault detecting program. Left me thinking it must be the lead, however, I plugged the lead into my Range Rover, which turned out not to be such a good idea, as it clearly detected the connection and threw the Range into a bit of a spasm! (after a little drive all the computer faults rectified themselves).

E-Sys Software

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could please help me find a link where I can download the E-Sys software and any step-by-step or guidance on how to code my 2013 BMW F30 to enhanced Bluetooth audio. I have a Navigation system installed in my car so I am assuming my car would be compatible for coding. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Just want to thank Shawn, coding my 316i was straightforward and worked first time. Following the instructions he provided was easy and now my car does Bluetooth music streaming, has the office function, has the ability to pair an additional phone for receiving or placing calls on, and also has enhanced USB capability meaning that my iPhone connects to the car via USB without the special BMW cable.

There are many businesses out there that attempt to charge you extortionate rates to code some simple stuff and I'm glad I took the time to do it myself. Massive thanks to this forum and Shawn for proving all the information you need.

Edit:
The track change wheel on my steering wheel doesn't appear to do anything, but I can change track by using the buttons on the head unit itself. Also my voice control button on the steering wheel has never done anything. Are both of these things solvable by coding?

Hey guys Im new here at the forum. From the netherlands.

I've been driving with pleasure in a BMW F30 for almost 2.5 years. Immediately after receiving, I've adjusted some settings (extended bluetooth support, start-up and standard comfort mode). A few months ago I noticed that it became very hot in my car. I went to the dealer but they couldn't find or reproduce the problem. That was not very surprising, since the problem kicked in after driving for at least an hour, with the airconditioning on the driver's side just blowing hot air.

Last week I decided to go back to the dealer, which, in the process of replacing and coding a new central unit, found out that there were adjustments in the car (extended bluetooth support added) and immediately indicated that this was the cause that the air conditioning did not function properly. The dealer reverted the settings and is now charging me with the total costs of analysis and the new central unit. I think this is a very strange story and it just doesn't feel right. I feel I'm being screwed and I doubt that it can be proven that this really the cause. In addition, it is of course very strange that the problems starting to manifest after almost 2.5 years. This, too, just doesn't add up.

Does anyone have experience with this? Could the coding of extended Bluetooth support suddenly affect the operation of the airconditioning after it has been functioning perfectly for almost 2.5 years?

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!

Hi Shawn, I am kind of new to this community, but am following it since I purchased my latest BMW.
You are always very helpful and I thought you might also have a solution to my problem.

I have a F30 - 2013 328 ix (US version)
I have no navigation and no combox in the trunk. I do have 6NH and Bluetooth hands-free is working.
This car has HU_ENTRY and as I understand the EBT cannot be coded to that car.
The problem is that I didn't read all the posts carefully and I was just sticking to your thread (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8020396&postcount=7), so I thought that my car can have EBT so I tried to code it.
I changed FA from 6NH to 6NK and then I did all the "step 2" procedure. After final step, when HU supposed to be coded, I got that error:

HU_ENTRY [63]
cdDeploy FinishedWithError
cafd_000000f9-007_009_009 FinishedWithError

The unit is now not working properly (car is pretending to be F20 :)) and radio and multimedia etc. is not working at all. The only language that works is French.
So i tried to load back an old FA and code it again.
But the cafd is missing (there is no cafd under HU_ENTRY ECU), so coding is not possible.

At that time, I was using E-sys 3.27.1 with PSdZ 3.59.3.002. Since HU was updated 1 year ago with the latest firmware, I switched now to PSdZ 62.4.001.
I still can't see the cafd, but before coding, it was there and working normally with the old PSdZ version (I did several FDL codings).

Do you have any idea how can I solve that?

...
You need to inject CAFD back into HU_ENTRY and VO Code module with original FA:

Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read SVT (VCM) => Left-Click on HU_ENTRY = > Click on "Detect CAF for SWE" => Select the CAFD from latest I-Level shown (bottom one) => Select OK => Right-Click on HU_ENTRY (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) => Select CODE.

I coded 6NL to my F30 a few months ago thanks to your help. The car does Bluetooth music but occasionally I get audio glitching and skipping which I haven’t heard in any other BMW with enhanced Bluetooth. I’ve tried multiple Bluetooth devices and different apps like Spotify and YouTube to play audio from, it still glitches randomly.

The glitchy noises can be solved by switching to the radio and then straight back to Bluetooth music, but at some point it will randomly occur again. I am really not sure what’s causing this, does anyone have an idea?

Just to note that the audio glitches occur at any volume level regardless of Bluetooth audio source. The noises are like digital distortion and popping.

Hi Shawn,

I have a 2010 X5 E70 LCI (made in Sept 2010) with options 6FL (USB/Aux) & 6VC (Combox). Base on my research, I need to add 2 hardware (Bluetooth antenna & microphone) to activate Extended Bluetooth for phone call & music streaming.

On the coding part, I've a K-DCAN cable on the way & NCS-Expert installed on a laptop. I just need some clarification on my coding plan as below.

I intend to do the following: -
1) VO code the HU_CIC and CMB_MEDIA
2) In FA, add 6NS (or 6NK, 6NF..!?)

Do I miss any major item? Which option (6NS, 6NK or 6NF) is correct for my E70 LCI?

Thank you in advance!

#451 ·
I think it is even older than that, and likely you need 644 Preparation f mobile phone w Bluetooth.

#452 ·
Hi Shawn,

Thank you for the quick reply! I really appreciate it.

I saw option 644 (Combox Media) in another thread before. Do I need to prepare option 633 (Combox Telematics) together? Or just 644?

I've also learnt from continuing reading this thread: -

1) 6NS is meant for EBT with NBT,
2) 6NL is for EBT with BMW Assist. It works with Combox - Telematics
3) 6NF is for EBT with Combox - Media

Thank you for all the useful info!

I am not sure is 633 is valid in Asia. I would start with 644 and see what you have. If you have Telekinetics that are not working with 644, then try 633 instead.

Hello from Spain. I am completely new to the world of BMW (my car is an F48) and coding, so, appart from having read many many posts about coding, I have some doubts.

I would like to code extended bluetooth but I do not want to mess anything so I would like to ask for some help if it were possible.

1. First thing is adding the code 6NS to FA (or 6NK, see below).
1.1 If in FA the code 6NH is found, change it for 6NS.
1.2 If there is no 6NH, simply add 6NS.

First question. I have found that if you have BMW assist you should change to 6NS but if you do not have BMW assist you should add 6NK instead of 6NS. Is that correct ?. How do I know if I have BMW assist ?.

2. Afterwards, you should VO code either HU_NBT or CMB_MEDIA and HU_CIC/HU_ENTRY. Which is the one I have to code ?. How do I know it ?.

3. I have seen several tutorials about coding and changing FA, but less about VO coding. Could you point me to a good tutorial about VO coding ?.

Thanks a lot !!.

Hi Shawn,

I need your advice again!

I'm waiting for the K-DCAN cable to arrive. At the mean time, I was thinking to update the CIC software version in the car. Then I got into problem!

My E70 has version MX-002.005.025. From BMW website, I've downloaded latest UPD01008 (01 Oct 2014). With a FAT32 formatted USB drive, I've tried few times, but all ended up with an error "Software on USB device incompatible with this vehicle".

UPD01008 supposes to have MX-3.5.4.

Any suggestions to try?

#469 ·
Sorry, but I don't know, I have seen this a dozen times myself, and I know the .bin UPD file has to be compatable with the car's Combox firmware, but I do not know any way to ensure you get the latest compatible version.

Do you have iPHone or Droid, and is this same phone tested and known to work with inband ringing in other head unit type?
