Is there a list online somewhere that shows the popularity rank of the various 3-Series exterior colors (i.e., ranked according to numbers produced)?

I don't know of any ranking....but I bet Titanium Silver is #1 and by a fair margin. Yup, I drive a silver e46. I'm definitely getting something different next time. its not that I don't like it....its just so common. :(

bimmer.org guy from one of the dealerships posted a chart showing North American sales per color, Tit.silver was #1, Topaz if I remember correctly was #2...I believe Jet black was up there at least the #3 or 4 spot, the Oxford was least fav.

Excellent! I WILL keep an eye on that thread. These figures must vary from country to country and region to region in the U.S. It's the national U.S. figures that would be most important to me. My own list, based mostly on my daily commute (which probably throws it off) would be:

1) Jet Black/Black Sapphire (can't tell apart)

2) Titanium Silver

3) Alpine White

4) Steel Gray

5) Gray Green

6) Oxford Green

7) Orient Blue

8) Topaz Blue

9) Steel Blue

10) Electric Red

For a new color, Gray Green has made a lot of inroads here. Also, Oxford Green seems popular compared to what you guys have seen.

Edmunds includes a "color adjustment" in their TMV prices. This MAY be an indication of popularity. The numbers for So Calif are:

White: $98
Silver: $85
Topaz Blue: $67
Black (both): $41
Oxford Green: $21
Orient Blue: $0
Steel Blue: $0
Steel Gray: $0
Red: -$62
Gray Green: -$100

Ahhh, good thinking! That looks about right..from what I recall I seeing on Freds color chart for 2000-2001 models.

I saw a chart in Roundel that showed a historical color chart....purple was the lowest...red was down there too.

Look at the M series board, I'm kinda hooked on Silverstone now.... :D

No More Barney jokes! :D

Someone can do a search on org for the info that Fred Meloan posted late last summer. He had a graph and everything.

A few weeks before that, I put up a list just from my observations, and Fred's figured ended up being really close to mine.

Here was my list:
Ti Silver
Jet Black
Alpine White
Steel Blue
Steel Grey
Topaz Blue
Orient Blue
Red
Everything else

For the first time since I can remember all the 3 Series models have the same color choices. I have looked at the color selections for the first two months of 2002 production for the four most popular models and charted them for you.
To the surprise of almost no one Titanium Silver and Jet Black remain the two most popular choices, comprising over 50% of production. I have to express my own surprise that Alpine White and Steel Gray are the next two most popular colors and that Oxford Green was among the lowest percentage of orders.

Wow, for some reason, around here (Houston) Gray Green and Oxford Green seem more common than that chart indicates. Especially Gray Green. I'm placing my order tomorrow for a 325i and I (think) I've decided on Gray Green with Gray Leather Interior.
