Every now and then I’ll check the dip stick and remove the oil cap on my E39 540i just to make sure everything’s good- but yesterday I got quite the scare. Under the oil cap was a white substance similar to what’d you see when coolant mixes with the oil. Some research revealed that this can happen when temperature changes from cold to hot- etc. Recently the weather in NJ has been pretty cold with a warmer day here and there. Here’s what I saw. I would say it is condensation.
To be sure go driving at speed for an hour or two... it is nice driving weather today...
