Hi! I have a 2007 323i and I keep trying to set my cruise control, but it says that it cannot activate (Cruise control + ! Symbol).
What are the steps you are suggesting to solve the issue or at least to find out the problem?!

Thanks in advance***128522;

I am going to check the OBD codes on next week:)
Do you know the Fuse numbers? Except #21 which is for Auto Cruise Control.

Thanks!

If you are seeing the icon attached below, that is simply telling you what you ALREADY KNOW:
"Cruise Control Defective" -- like you needed the car to tell you that when you "keep trying to set cruise control" and it won't hold speed. :)

The explanation for that icon also states: "Have the problem checked by the nearest BMW Service", the trouble & expense of which you are precisely trying to avoid. :bigpimp:

So most readers should just stop here and take their vehicle to the "nearest BMW Service" -- after all we ALL have more money than time & don't care to try to understand technology more than what button to push to get a desired result.

So you could use "Check Control" to try to get diagnostic information, but all it would give you is CC-ID 26 or 337, both of which basically say what is described above. So what can you actually do yourself, or what should your next steps be?

Do you have any other warning icons on the instrument cluster such as DSC or ABS warning? If not, the ONLY reasonable thing to do, short of having the local BMW service handle it:

1) Identify WHICH of 3 possible Cruise Control options your vehicle has by referring to the options in place on your vehicle as identified using an online VIN Decoder such as:
https://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/EN/vin/decoder/online
As example, that decoder shows my 2007 328xi has "S544 Cruise control with brake function"

2) Read the following TIS general description of function of YOUR particular option:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/.../cruise-control-with-braking-function/XZvTnm0
Here is a more-detailed discussion:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/...ystem-cruise-control-remote-operation/24kOQEk

3) If you have Option 544, note the following from the above:
As of 09/06 or on the E92 with the series launch (06/06), the cruise control with braking function (optional extra 544) is integrated in the DSC control unit. The LDM control unit is therefore eliminated on optional extra 544 as of 09/06.

So if YOUR 2007 vehicle has S544 option, connecting a scan tool or BMW-specific software which can read info from the DSC Module (Dynamic Stability Control) to your OBD II socket will allow you/ a tech to read saved fault information or real-time sensor input related to Cruise Control Function to more quickly identify the fault. It is necessary to know which Control Module (DSC in my case) to connect to in order to obtain diagnostic information, and that varies by Option on particular vehicle as well as build date of your vehicle.

4) OR you could find the correct circuit diagram for your Cruise Option in TIS, and test the old-school way starting from the fuse and then all input circuits for wiring faults.

Please let us know the outcome, or if we can help further,
George

Wow, thank you George, I couldn***8217;t wish to have an answer that exhaustive/complete!

To answer your wondering, I have 2 more lights in my dash (ABS & Check Engine) for the simple reason that my BMW has custom items such as new exhaust line and oversized mags, etc.

So 3 of the more common problems are Fuses (only in the glive box or there are some CC fuses somewhere else?), Braking Module, and ..?

You suggest me to go to a BMW dealer to check that out or with a Snap-On OBD decoder, I should be good to go?

Thanks in advance!

If your ABS light is on, finding out WHY may solve your Cruise Control issue. ABS wheel speed sensors are connected to the DSC Module. Cruise Control (at least the S544 Option) is provided via the DSC. So the ABS warning light and Cruise Control Non-function are likely related.

Did your Cruise non-function occur at the same time the ABS warning light appeared? If your front & rear tires are different circumference, that alone could explain the issue for BOTH ABS & Cruise. Mods have consequences: often unintended consequences if the complicated systems of the vehicle are NOT fully understood.

I can't provide any "educated" next step suggestions without answers to the questions I posed in my previous post. I particularly need to know build date (month & year) of your vehicle, and what cruise option you have. At the very least, if you are too busy to find that info, provide your VIN & I or anyone else can look up that information for you, and identify the proper TIS circuit Schematics.

Okay, I do not know if both lights (ABS and Cruise) occured at the same time.
My wheels have the same diameter but not the OEM ones (should be 205/55R16) and in summer I have 19in and 17in in winter<img src="http://s1.bimmerfest.com/forums/images/smilies/smile3453453.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smilie" class="inlineimg" />

I can provide my VIN because all the info you are asking are out of my knowledges ahah

VIN: WBAVH13577KC97567

Thanks George!

It's NOT a matter of wheel diameter, but rather tire size/ circumference where ALL of the four tires mounted on the vehicle at any one time have the same number of revolutions per mile. It is that tire/ wheel revolution rate that the Wheel Speed Sensors are sending to the DSC, and if the rates do NOT match for all wheels, the DSC may set a fault code and the warning light appears. So questions become:

1) Are your tires "staggered" on either the winter set or summer set, where Front tires are different profile or width than Rear tires? If so what are the respective Front/Rear TIRE SIZES?

2) Do you get the ABS Fault Icon/warning with BOTH wheel & tire sets (summer & winter)?

My guess is that if you do NOT have BMW-specific software like INPA or ISTA, or a BMW-specific scan tool that can read codes and parameters in the DSC, we're NOT going to be able to solve this issue long-distance, but let's give it one more try. If you will answer those questions, I'll look up the cruise option, build date & circuit info :)

First of all, I have all same tire sizes, but last summer when I bought the car, the last owner used to put different tire size in the front due to mags repairs (19 and 18in at the back, 17 and 19in in the front.. at first I thought it was a bad idea). This being said, I bought 4 winter tires with the same sizes that has +4.1% circumference compared to original ones!

Also, summer tires are 265/30R19 in the back and smaller in front (last owner changed all settings ahah)

I am not sure but If I can remember correctly, the ABS light was ON last summer. I have not tested the codes yet:/

Also, going on another problem, when the car goes with higher RPMs, it smells like something had burned or candle paraffin.. I heard it could possibly be the Belt but it seems all good and no loose, do you have an idea? When I ride at 60mph or 100km/h, nothing***8217;s wrong and when my ventilation is off, I cannot smell nothing..

Thanks again George!

Hello everyone, I have a 2004 525i (E60), so I have been having a few issues. Some unrelated to the others. The main one is the cruise control/ABS lights. SOMETIMES it works flawlessly. But most of the time I get a cruise control ***8220;warning***8221; message on my dash saying it does work, it only says that OVER 60 MPH, it works until about 62 MPH. I also have an ABS light that won***8217;t let me use the DSC button at all. On an advanced BMW diag tool, I get the codes ***8220;005E26***8221; (wheel speed front left) ***8220;005E59***8221; (wheel speed front right) ***8220;005F16***8221; (basically wheel speed sensors don***8217;t match) and ***8220;00D358***8221; (message transmission data not revived) I checked all the wheel speed sensors and none are damaged. Cleaned them off tho because they were dirty as hell. I***8217;m thinking maybe the front reluctor rings are shot.
