Curious, how does this work at dealerships?

Scenario based question...

Two separate guys walk into a dealership. Or let's say one is on the phone, or one is shopping over email.
They are both looking at the same vehicle (yet working with different SA's) and both pull the trigger and say yes at the same time.
What happens?

Is there a race to put a sold sticker on it? or is there software on the computers that immediately says the vehicle is sold?
I'm speculating that SA's could mark a sold vehicle and it would have a time stamp.
Again, just curious. :)

communication isn’t great and sometimes salesman can show a car that’s already sold only to learn after the fact that it’s accounted for. What happens after that I guess depends on how good the salesman is and how badly the customer still wants a BMW.
To answer your question directly I’m not sure that ever happened but if 2 people agree at the exact same time then I assume it’s a Thunder dome death match. 2 men enter 1 man leaves.

It's a free-for-all. The three most important rules in the car business:

1) Get the money
2) Get the money
3) Get the money.

Whoever collects a deposit first usually wins.

A tie goes to whichever deal yield greater gross profit potential.

sales manager decides who gets the car.

Both salespeope can 'sell' it, on paper.

I mean if you buy the car at 8PM on line and I call my brother in law, the dealership owner at 8:30PM and offer $10k over MSRP, Im gonna be picking it up in the morning.

There are no computer codes, no locks, no 'lists with BMWNA including time stamps'

From my experience that would NEVER happen. (I'm assuming your talking about a car on the showroom floor)

IMHO

Usually at a dealer a certain salesman is assigned to cars, Even if the salesmen is away, somone will take your call and email and say, they will get "xyz" to get back to you. (I've had this when car shopping) even when I have rung asking about a car and not for the salesmen, the guy will certainly pick up my details even talk about the car, but he will say, "I'll get John to ring you back on it", he would probably take a deposit or book an appointment, because sales guy's usually do solids for each other, but the person whoes car it is does the deals.

This is my experience at 3 BMW dealerships

That salesman WILL certainly juggle people but he knows who wants the car and has put a deposit, it would never happen that SAM gets a buyer and JOE gets a buyer both at the same time for the same car.

CANADA, what yoos folks do in the US could be totally different
