I am considering doing this mod to my m54, but it is my understanding that after this mod, the vacuum at idle will be substantially higher than the stock design. I use my car for work, and during the summer I have to idle at quite lengthy time periods. Would this cause a problem for me? Would I need to also use an adjustable vacuum relief, possibly tied in to the F pipe on the intake duct, so there would not be unmetered air being introduced into the system?

Hello from Virginia I have a 2002 325i I been having a issue with cold start and idoling…
When I first start my car it starts up and shuts off it will do this couple times if I apply the gas it will stay running. After it some what worms up it has a rough idol once the car is good and hot the idol clears up for short time and back to the rough idol. After reading a lot of post and tricks to see if my ccv was bad or not. I took the oil cap off and my car’s idoling started to act up I put the oil cap back on and the idol went back to normal I did the couple of times and got the same results. I started checking for vacuum leaks and I noticed I felt a hose that was really loss so I pulled easy on the hose and to my surprise the hose wasn’t plugged into anything except on the other end and it was plugged into the oil dip stick at the bottom. But at the oil cap there was suction ?
When I found this broken hose I started looking at the post here and the pictures and it goes to my ccv so I’m guessing if I replace the ccv and all the hoses I’m hoping this will fix my idol ? I’m also thinking about the dipstick being clogged or not once I order everything I’ll soak it in dawn dish liquid water and hope it will clean everything. If anyone has a comment on my problem please let me know thank you guys for your feedback

my m54 had the weird dipstick drain return... it was clogged.. and even after replacing the ccv entirely (*hose and valves exc exc)

the dip stick neeed to be removed and cleared out...

the snot build up in the drip stick.... the ccv oil return system..

water and oil, *atmospheric moisture and oil

the i6 intake system is garbage... at some point if you just take it all apart clean it.. and put it back together.. you will be better

Do not use Dawn Dish Liquid, take the dipstick tube out and get a deep plastic container and soak it in gasoline for a few days (I actually soaked mine for a week if I remember correctly) making sure you submerge the lower part of the dipstick tube completely including the part of the tube that connects to the CCV oil return line. The intake distribution piece as well should be submerged in gasoline for a day or 2, it accumulates oil and gets clogged as well, you can flip that over so it lays flat and just fill it with gasoline.
You will be shocked at how much sediment is in that tube and how much oil is in the intake distribution piece.

Welcome to the forum Brandon.
Not sure if it will fix the idol problem, but it should fix the idle problem.
