On my 330CiC ever Time I start the car the Air conditioning Always turns on automiatically. Is there a way to get it to turn on ONLY when *I* turn it on Maunally?
Your dealer must set this option. It's part of the car/key memory system.

I am waiting for my car (its on the boat). I would like to know why people find this feature annoying so I can decide what to request when the dealer configures my car.

It says (and this makes sense) that the AC can dehumidify the air and defog the windshield faster (in damp cold weather). I also assume it is desirable in the summer as well. I'm guessing the only time it would be unwanted is during a dry cold winter?

I live in Vancouver and its damp most of the year.

What's the whole story?

Here are my 2 reasons:

1. The car should remember the last setting... it shouldn't turn on anything unless I tell it to

2. Air conditioners sap power from the car... if I want it, I can turn it on myself

So, I assume you have the AC off more often then you have it on?

Obviously, it makes sense for the car to turn it on all the time if you would turn it on more than 50% of the time anyway. If you would only turn it on less than 50% of the time, it would make sense to turn it on manually. What climates and conditions match these conditions?

What do you recommend for a predominantly rainy north-west climate?

Hey Al,

You could install 2 extra AC's in your car, turn them all on, and your car would still be plenty of power @ your usual cruising speeds... :lmao:

WTG Alex...now Al will be thinking of making that mod to his car  3 a/c's + 11 M68's = OCD :thumb:

I won't even tell you about the latest one that he is doing to his car...I'll let him tell you...it's way past OCDish

Ah, laugh you might, but I'll have the all important redundancy for mission critical driving. Always have a spare! :D

Maybe I'll just get an extra 330Ci for parts, and keep it in tow, in case I need something. :thumb:

My car ('02 325Xi) always turns on with the rear defrost on when the temp is below a certain degree. Drives me crazy but the dealer (and manual) suggest that it is not a dealer setting, but built in to the system.

Anyone know otherwise?

Yup. Thats what I have gathered as well. Just exercise that finger and push it off everytime I guess. I agree it's definitely a "feature" I wish I never had. :thumbdwn:

Isn't this "auto turn on" of the rear defroster at 37 degrees because of the heated windshield "pissers" Aren't they on the same circuit as the rear defogger and the heated outside mirrors....seems silly, but I have never seen water freeze at 37 degrees.....must be a "Bangle" idea:rolleyes:

Totally off

Perhaps I did not realize it the dealer set it this way but my climate control stays off when I shut it off (by turning the fan off). I do wish there was an "off" button to avoid having to push the fan button but my MB had the same procedure.
