I had static in my speakers that sounded like a short, so I pulled the aftermarket stereo. Sure enough the person who installed the stereo did nothing more than twist the wires together and cover with electrical tape. Also I found that one of the wires was loose and lodged in the mechanism for the temperature control knob. This would explain why, when I turned the temperature control knob, the dash lights went out never to come on again.
The chime doesn't work when I leave the lights on either; however, the chime still works when I leave the keys in the ignition. Luckily the headlights turn off in case I leave them on.
The SRS light came on quite some time before the dash lights went out, so I am not sure if this is related or not.
I checked the fuses and they appear to be good.
Are there more fuses / fusible links that i am missing? If so, where are they?

Check the fuses with a meter. You can have fuses that appear fine and be an open circuit.
