On our 2000 7, we now have the brake, ABS, and the triangle warning light (with the traction control arrow around it) in center of dash on. My wife says she noticed it after hitting brakes fairly hard while backing out of a driveway. Any ideas?
When my E38 had those three yellow lights come on, the code was for a front wheel speed sensor. I swapped them left/right and the code didn't follow. Ended up being the ABS/DSC module, which over time is prone to heat. People report the lights come on as the engine warms, but eventually will come on more often or all the time once more damage is done to the solders and connections.
If you buy it new and/or from the dealer, you have to also pay labor to have it coded to the car. If you send out your own module, no coding is needed. I know people who used this place and were happy, I would use them if/when it happens to the E39.
