What exactly do you consider speeding. I don't mean in the legal sense. I mean your own moral/personal/ethical/whatever definition.

Edit: And I really meant to say "Book 'im" up there...

After seeing some of the comments about "speeders" in other recent threads, I must say that I'm curious... It's a pretty meaningless word these days, IMHO.

FWIW, I'm in the substantially faster than the flow of traffic camp.

If you marked other, please explain. :)

Well as I am the first to post I might as well explain why I said other. In the US I would drive differently, but here in Switzerland everyone drives around 130-140kph although the limit is 120.

I often drive around 150-160 and 180-200 on some straighter parts of the highway. Which some would consider speeding, but I'll often be passed by someone going a little faster and sometimes much faster(240kph):yikes:

My 'other' is somewhere between 4 and 5. Besides, 4 is too arbitrary. 5 can be reckless since it doesn't gauge the safety of other road users (and this is assuming you have full knowledge of you, your vehicle's abilities, and road and environmental conditions eg. at a track).

Assume that we define "substantially faster" as 20MPH over the flow of traffic?
I'm beginning to wonder if I should have posted this as a poll in the first place. It's really hard to encompass this in six questions.

Ask a politician what speeding is and they'll think to themselves (never would they admit it) that it is a way to increase revenue. I think it's a racket.

It took CT what seemed like forever to make the increase from 55 to 65 even though the Federal law had changed and the statistics did not support that a 55 mph speed limit lowered the death toll.

Just my $ .02

Other. I tend to think people are speeding when they're going faster than ME.

And that's generally when I see it :p

I really don't want to quote George Carlin for the second time in less than a week. I'll let someone else do it. :D

For now, I'll quote from a movie. Extra credit for the first one who can name it.

"I never drive faster than I can see."

Personally, I try to drive below the 5 point mark. :) That's 85MPH on MD interstates, as far as I can tell.

I think 20mph and over would be speeding. Flow of traffic could make sense too, but at least around here, not many people go over 15 over the limit even as the majority. Sometimes we have the crazy people who go over 25-30, and this usually tends to cause road rage, and it usually creates a chain reaction causing other people to speed too. 10-15 over would be feasible:)

We need to switch to a lane control based traffic law from the current speed based system....

If you want to drive 55, stay far to the right. I can cruise by safely in the left lane at 50 mph more than you :)

Theoretically this sorta exists, but not in the state of California. Every time I or a friend would go out-of-state, we'd really notice how people everywhere else will actually 'keep right.'

Here, people drive 50mph in Lane#1 all the time. Its freaking dangerous.

Ok,
I think a bit more definition of terms is needed.

Speeding to me is anytime I exceed the posted speed limit as set by law, period.

What I read into your question is more "What is a safe speed?"
This would vary due to traffic, my experience, and the road.
It could be 25 on a bad road in poor conditions and traffic to 80+ on a good open highway.

I would define speeding as "faster than is safe" Kinda like obscenity...I know it when I see it.
I am with you there and also voted for "other".
